Huuuge disappointment for such a small space – The fact that we had made a reservation several days in advance seemed the least bit important to the floor staff, who reservation or not, were just taking first come first served. We sat a well 15 minutes after our reservation time and were then charged for our "waiting" drinks. My party decided on the chef's tasting menu and wine pairings. which were bitterly disappointing. Considering the price, we were not served proper meat till the end, and all the tasting wine courses wer... read more

Where's the fabulous fresh bread and fantastic desserts I remember? – What happened? We were looking forward to the fabulous fresh melt in your mouth bread that we've had twice before while visiting the city. This essential comfort food brings the meal together - yes, my friends and I had a good meal but not outstanding - a fantastic dessert would have helped. Where were the little chocolates? The luscious handmade icecream? Service was great, bar small with an interesting but limited selection of wines. I'll ask around befo... read more

Fresh local food – Delightful, fresh, market menus. Awesome, Tue & Wed prix fixe! The garden is lovely and the dining room is mellow and welcoming. Wine list is always really good. The salt cod brandade with grilled foccaccia was one of the most wonderful comfort foods I've ever had.

i would rate this third in the smith street high cuisine death match. (to 1.saul, 2. grocery). but more affordable and more fun. excellent attentive service. well concieved wine list designed to match the food. a smith street gem.

Simple, rustic, casually elegant: The dining room and cuisine share common ground at this Smith Street eatery. – The Scene Uncomplicated, tasteful touches--a soothing abstract painting, an exposed brick wall, a tiny bar--grace the restaurant's neutral-toned interior. The adept waitstaff moves between the tightly packed tables, delivering plates of rich, hearty fare to the neighborhood's 30-something gastronomes and oenophiles. The Food Former Chef of Washington Park Daniel Eardley leans heavily on seasonal ingredients: An au... read more

Quality – I've passed this place dozens of times and somehow managed to overlook it for an entire year. Have tried it twice recently and am won over. The downright savory stuffed pork chop (an item I'd not ordinarly be drawn to, but figured I'd give a go) exceeded my expectations. I have never had a pork chop so satisfying. While the appetizers I sampled (gnocchi; shrimp wrapped in coconut or somesuch) were not so impressive (the gnocchi portion is meager and overpriced), my table was 100% satisfied with their entrees too. we got burned... – ... literally. Every item we oredered was burned, with the exception of my date's salad. But I'm sure they could have figured out a way to burn that too if they tried. The service was great but it didn't make up for the terrible food. The only thing I enjoyed was the wine. Not worth it - there are plenty of better places on Smith St.

Smith Street - Friday Night – Dine out in Brooklyn Week Menu - $20.06 gave us an excuse to make reservations for Chestnut. I loved the beet salad with almonds and arugula. My pork chop stuffed with fig was delicious. Toni and I then ordered the Chocolate Budino with carmel drizzle. It was the best flourless chocolate cake on Smith Street. Believe me, we have trying them all for the last 5 years. We will be back! michele
