The Channel Inn was cheap and in a great location, but those are the only good things about it. It was very outdated and the beds were uncomfortable. Our room also leaked during a heaving rainstorm, soaking the carpet in a small area of the room. If I were looking for a place to stay in D.C. again, I would pony up the extra money and go elsewhere.

You can't beat the price for a well-located place to stay in DC. The place is... ah, funky would be the word I'd use. Its heyday was the 70's, and it's a little long in the tooth. Despite what the site says about a coffee maker, there is none in the room. Also no refrigerator, nor is there a microwave available. The Pier 7 restaurant is actually quite good, assuming you like seafood. Alas, its wine list is extremely limited (small bottles of Woodbridge or Cavits), as is the beer list. My husband and I have gone to the Channel Inn on numerous occasions for over 20 years. The restuarant is charming, picturesque and the food is reasonably priced and very good. During our over night ventures we have always enjoyed the breakfast which features "made to order" buffets. OUR rooms were always clean and leak-proof as we have stayed on just about every floor.
