Authentic Mexican artwork and colorful, cozy booths provide a genuine Southwestern dining experience. The cheerful staff will serve your favorite daiquiri or other cocktail while you study the expansive menu and munch on chips and salsa. You will find plenty of affordable Mexican entrees, from tacos to tostadas, chimichangas to fajitas. Health-conscious patrons may prefer one of the vegetarian or seafood dishes.

The BEST in Portland – The service leaves something to be desired (although if the owners are around it is GREAT) and the ambience is a little cheesy, but that is MORE than made up by the quality of the food. It was AMAZING! My new favorite mexican restaurant in Portland.
Wonderful Food!!!! – I did not agree with the last review from Lemondrop. WE thought the booths were comfortable, the space did not feel like a cafeteria. The menu was extensive with many delicious items. Margaritas, Appetizer, and Entrees for two it was an average with tip of $16/17. per person. We thought it was a great deal for some fantastic south of the border food.
Bland and greasy – The food was greasy but the vegetables were really fresh. The booths weren't comfortable, the atmosphere was sort of like a cafetaria feeling, a little better though. That wouldn't have matttered if the food was good. I haven't had alot of mexican food but i've had alot better food at Taco Bell. The rice that came with my combo dish was dry and bland. I wouldn't go back there next time. It's not worth the price at all.
As real as it gets from over the border !! – Best chicken/spinich burritto in town. home made chips are nice and thin and the salsa, well, I could drink it! Great decor, Catlina herself roams the floor making sure all is ok - she's hysterical and in charge; seek her out! Pride is proof in the meals. Outside "to go" service is a great idea and very handy.
Consistency is the key – The best chips and salsa, refried beans in town! I have been eating here for three years now at least once a month, if not more. The seafood dishes reign supreme (shrimp tostada, ceviche, whole fried fish, oysters), but the shredded beef enchiladas haunt me as well. True, sometimes the service is slower, but I think worth the wait. A family owned and operated place, Catalina is a matriarch and business maven. I like the high quality of ingredients (meats especially) and authentic seasoning.
Am I in Mexico? – I've been to places in Mexico that are just like Catalina's. The atmosphere is very authentic Mexican, almost to the point where I can briefly forget where I am and expect the beach to be nearby waiting for me... I've been here a few times and have found that the tamales and chile rellenos are very good. My wife really likes the enchiladas because they come smothered in cheese and red sauce, and they mostly use shredded beef instead of ground beef. I recommend this place to anyone who has been to Mexico and... read more
Gotta try the salsa! – Growing up in Arizona, it was hard at first trying to find a truly authentic mexican restaurant. Until I ran across catalina's a few years back. I'm hooked and I'll have to say that the tamales are pretty close to home.
Catalina's has a 3.9 star rating with 253 reviews.
Catalina's is closed now. It will open tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
