The Matador in NW Portland, formerly Casa del Matador, our first Portland location, sits on the lively corner of NW 23rd and Quimby. When the sun comes out, the eight-foot high windows slide open for open air dining and the crowd vies for window or outdoor seating, while socializing over the city’s freshest Mexican cuisine.

Good Drink spot Good food, great drinks. Good place to drop in for a bite with friends. I loved their Mojitos and Margaritas
Great Happy Hour Casa del Matador is a rustic Mexican bar and grill. The food is wonderful and their happy hour menu is extensive enough to please everyone in your group. If you like spicy, try the habenero sauce...WOW!
trendy mexican with associated prices The food was good just not exceptional. There were some interesting combinations of flavor. The prices were a bit high, but that is to be expected based on its location. Parking is a challenge. The interior has some interesting decor and in the summer most of the windows/walls pull out of the way to open the place up. It is a very clean restaurant and the staff seemed to be quick and helpful.
Very satisfied The Matador offers very good food and strong drinks, but parking is a nightmare, as any business on 23rd is. It's a seriously hoppin' place on the weekend, so if you are looking for a fun place to go on a Saturday night, this is the place to be. Fast service when they are not busy, and the chips and salsa are AWESOME.
well not so great – My daughter was denied entrance at 1pm because she had a 13 day old baby with her. This place is listed as a bar and restaurant with sidewalk sitting on a city sidewalk. They were rude and dismissive. I will NEVER go back to this franchised bad place in my neighborhood of 30 years.
Fun and Unique place – This place is a lot of fun. Leave the kids at home and check this spot out. Very unique and their happy hour is amazing. Probably my favorite spot in the summer time. They open up the floor to ceiling windows which is great.
not worth the time – I have been to this restaurant twice now, and was severly disapointed both times. The service is horrible. First time I was there all we wanted was drinks, we probably would have ordered over a hundred dollars in drinks, but our waitress never came around. Second time same problem. I was there for a birthday, and our plan was to get dinner and drinks. We were seated and about 5-10 minutes later the waitress came over to take our drink order and food order. I told her we were there for a special occasion,... read more
I've always had a great experience here – I usually go here with friends for their happy hour 4pm-6pm and 10pm-1am. Their menu is awesome, it's not quite authentic tex-mex, but let's face it authentic tex-mex is actually cheap in price because it's cheap. Most mex dishes were designed to be cost effective. Fresh shrimp quesadillas from the happy hour menu are awesome and the goat cheese stuffed jalapenos are so tasty. They taste like they are fire roasted, they are wrapped in bacon (always a plus) and they have a good kick t... read more
Awesome food, beautiful place So pretty...I love the windows, the dark, cozy atmosphere and the delicious food. My husband and I are becoming regulars! The lighting and the decor will amaze you.
