What's a nice word for TERRIBLE?? – We spent over $200 for some O.K. steaks and twice baked potatoes that were bought from COSTCO. Waiter bashed Ruth's Chris and I wish we had spent our evening there....Twice baked's were hard as a rock and obviously bought from a wholesaler...when I complained...the waiter said.."Well, I guess they have been sitting back there for a while"...Should've ran when our waiter was outside trying to gather business and when I walked in...the place was empty.....Very upset we spent this much money ... read more
Huge disappointment and huge waste of money – Hard to tell if the steaks are of good quality or not, because they were terribly overcooked. Medium-rare gets you medium-well. Very dry and tasteless. Same with the pork chops -- tough and dry. Also, the twice-baked-potatoes were clearly NOT freshly made. They were heated up from frozen and tasted gritty, like the kind you buy pre-made from Sam's Club. A huge, huge disappointment. This is clearly a hotel restaurant and nothing more. Don't be fooled.
Satrurday night downtown – The service was the best part. Had a very veteran waiter who knew when to play it tight and knew when to play it loose. Went there with a group of friends and acquaintances. The man who invited us was very wealthy and fairly tight with owner. Had read reviews and thought this was a very expensive place. Not true. Sure the better steaks were up around 55 bucks, but they were huge. A 10 oz filet was only 35. That's abut right for a good filet. On to the dinner itself. I had the filet gorgonzola. The ... read more
Poor choice for large party – I brought my staff to St. Louis for a weekend getaway and found Carmine's on this website. I spent over $1200 on dinner at this restaurant only to regret making the reservation. My assistant made the reservation and when I called to verify once we were in St. Louis they said they didn't have us on the list. I should have seen this as a sign and asked the concierge to for a different restaurant. Once there we had a few trays of appetizers, scallops (smelt like ammonia), frog legs (they were fried... read more
great people and great food cant be beat – I went to Carmines with a large group of people, It was highly recommended by the business we are visiting. It has a geat location, excellent staff, and the food was to die for. Every single item from your appetizers through dinner and dessert was cooked to perfection and served with finess. I felt like royalty.
Fantastic family dining! – My family recently celebrated an anniversary at Carmine's and we just loved it! We were met with friendly service at the door. The complimentary valet parking is a blessing downtown. I can't even begin to say enough good things about our waiter, Thomas; he was wonderful and made the evening even more memorable. I highly recommend that you don't pass up their homemade toasted ravioli. It's more like a flaky pastry, rather than the standard frozen t-ravs you'll find elsewhere. While my father had the... read more
Stick to steak, and let Carmine's take care of you. – The Scene Your server: Quiet, attentive, a relaxed presence in a white apron. The room: Picture windows, soft music, mellow lighting. The patrons: Business people in suits, couples in black turtlenecks. The Food Try the 14-ounce New York strip with seasoned butter. Add garlic mashed potatoes and a Caesar salad with its assertive, tangy dressing. Other steaks range from an 8-ounce tenderloin rolled in cracked pepper to a 24-ounce Porterhouse. Seafood, pork chops, chicken a... read more
Bad to the bone! – The unique, "bone in" steak is appreciated by those rare individuals who desire outstanding flavor and tenderness. I dine here frequently and count it as an unfound gem in the local dining scene. The steaks, salads, choice of potato, and outstanding service are on par with any of the top steak houses in the United States. The food is consistently good and well worth the value for the money!
Better than the "Best" – If you want a quiet, sophisticated steak house, then you have to try Carmine's. This new, classy restaurant has fantastic atmosphere, service and great food. This is a St Louis steak house that is in a league of it's own. If you want a noisy, busy, mediocre steak house, go elsewere. Even the side dishes and salads are great. With free valet parking and the best steaks in town, you can't go wrong.
