I do not recommend. The counselors were horrible. They were unreliable, irresponsible, and disrespectful. They were not accommodating! The campers were expected to be able to operate at the rate of “normal” in shape person from day 1. There were many times where some of the campers had to explain in front of everyone why they couldn’t do the activities at the rate of others. Making it a very uncomfortable/embarrassing environment. Camp Shane has changed my life in more ways than imaginable. I have so much more confidence than I thought I’d ever have. I’ve created friendships that will last a lifetime. Camp Shane is my home away from home. I have been attending Camp Shane for 6 years not only to be in shape and be healthy, but it is such a safe and welcoming environment where everyone is accepted and I can be myself. Camp Shane is now know as Camp Shame in our house. The camp in Wisconsin was NOT run by a "fit" camp counselor, and all of the "trained counselors" were a bunch of teenage kids from the surrounding town with a population of 500. My son has ODD, please look at their claims to have professionals on-site to deal with these issues. This place is a money trap and a hoax. My son had a major dune buggy accident at this camp. Accidents happen I get that but the lack of response and compassion from the nurse, staff and owners of this camp is shameful! No one ever contacted me following the accident! Thankfully my son had his phone and called me from the hospital. The owner David saw my son the next day at camp and said “I’ll Never let you drive my BMW”. Enough said! And yes we won the lawsuit.

I inquired online about Camp Shane at the beginning of the year. I received the packet in the mail and started receiving phone calls from Rhonda, a 'satisfied mom'. We spent a lot of time on the phone at least twice a month. She answered my questions and told me all the great things it did for her daughter. I went to Camp Shane when I was 16 back in 1996, and never once were we made to feel like we were at a “fat camp” the food was healthy but good, plus we got to go on a couple of field trips to nyc! What really made a difference in my mind was several months later (fall/winter) they called to check on you!
