Wonderful place to spend you childhood
I grew up in Du Quoin and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School. I attended Camp Ondessonk around 1987-1991 and was selected for Lodge. My boy Breck went to camp this week and was selected for Lodge and I’m truly proud of him. We’ve sent him to camp for the past 4 years. I enjoyed my experience at Camp Ondessonk and during my travels around the world since then I’ve met many people that also went to Camp Ondessonk and shared the same feelings. I went every year from the age of 10 in 1963 for 9 years including staff and a volunteer once. It was my heaven on earth. I would babysit all year long to pay my own way. The second year for me was the first summer they offered 2 weeks for girls. On the night of the moon landing I was at camp. We had a big bonfire and the radio coverage aired over the camp loud speakers. My son went when he was old enough but none of my family loved Camp Ondessonk as much as I did. I still have my golden arrowhead patch! Heepwah ❤️
My daughter went this year and loved it!! My sisters and myself went when we were younger and also had a blast. It was so worth the 5 1/2 hour drive!!!
Still love Camp Ondessonk even after 5 years. This year sending all 3 of my kids. My oldest is going 3 times. We love everything about it. Registration process is efficient. Their activities are great. The food is yummy. The staff is very nice and personable. The kids are well behaved. Bunk 1 is great for sharing pictures. And the friendships made and the memories kept are forever priceless. Best investment our family has made. Heepwah! 💚
I recommend any adult to volunteer their time and expertise to a very worthy cause, Camp Ondessonk. It’s a great privilege to be a part of getting young people back into nature.
