Best Location of Them All -- Friends of Dorothy, Must GO! – Every single time my partner and I are craving some Mexi meat, we run over to this particular Cafe Rio location because the service is superb. They consistently give a little extra meat over the other locations! I realize they don't know us by name (yet), but they certainly remember us and are always nice to us. The grilled chicken burrito is my favorite sans cheese, and my partner loves chicken tortilla soup (he's on a diet). The mint limeade is superb. Oh my gosh.... read more
Yawn. Nothing special here. – This place sells sweet pork and chicken burritos and taco salads. They don't do Mexican spices, but they do a lot of brown sugar. Lines are long. Try beto's instead if you want Mexican fast food. (Of course, the red iguana if you want great Mexican at a real restaurant).
There goes your time at the gym!!!!! – If you are looking to stay fit and keep off the unwanted pounds do not go to any Cafe Rio. The food there is loaded with fat, carbs, etc. We went for the first time moving to the state and watched what they call sweet pork being cooked in what looked like a pound of butter and tasted like a quart of sugar had been added and then taken to the line. Even the shredded beef. We watched the so called made in house meat "that was in a bag" reheated and cooked in butter again and brought out t... read more
Editorial Review – Mexican eatery offers homemade tortillas and traditional made-to-order items such as burritos and tortilla chicken soup.
Great Food, On busy nights or wekends call your order in. – Great food, a little ridiculous pricing on sides of dressing, but other than that not much negative to say/
Consistently Good – When I want a burrito, I go to Cafe' Rio and order the shredded beef burrito enchilada style (black beans, hot sauce please!). The food is consistently good even if there is a wait. I've started ordering "to go" so I can waltz in and grab my burrito and go back to work without waiting in the line... I know people get irritated by waiting but I'd much rather wait for good food than go somwhere that's empty and have bad food.
Cafe Rio or Cafe Gringo – Though the food is edible, it is light fare. If you want spicy, this is not the place for you. The food is very Americanized. Too much salad and not enough traditional fare.
Lost it in all the success – Unfortunately, Cafe Rio is a victim of its own success. They have become so desensitized to the sheer volume of their business that they are cavalier about turning away business. Try a lunch-time phone in. The message will tell you all the things you cant do. If/when you reach a live person again, apathetic and desensitized to the guest. While we love the food, this is a very easily copied business model. Bring on the competition. Oh by the way, they are almost paranoid that someone with take thi... read more
There's a reason for the line – At most times of the day you'll find yourself at the end of a very long line when you walk inside a Cafe Rio. Some people tend to be discouraged by that, but not me. I find it comforting, actually. I think any place that is so popular you have an inevitable 20 minute wait in line must be a winner. Cafe Rio's food tends to lean towards the "fresh mex" trend, and in my opinion, it's the leader in that category. So yes, I will file through the cattle corral-like line like everyone before me, beca... read more
