Longtime vegetarian and Cafe Gratitude is my favorite restaurant in Santa Cruz!
The food and service at Gratitude are great but... as much as I love animals, I don't think it's sanitary to allow dogs to sit on customers' laps while at the restaurant. Just today, a young woman brought in a dog, sat him on her lap and the dog put his feet, nose, and head on the table. It was cute to watch, but very unsanitary for the rest of the restaurant and its patrons. Will not go back and will let others know how unsanitary your restaurant is.

The caprese sandwich was terrific! I can’t stress just how delicious this sandwich was with the pesto and “cheese”—OMG, divine! The grilled potatoes and house-made vegan cheese was beyond delectable and a pure win on my vegan road trip. The BLT unfortunately was just OK—the choice of saucy coconut shreds for the bacon didn’t work for me and the avocado chunks felt uninspired I expected dried coconut bacon but a better substitute would’ve been the tempeh.
