Dr Shafer performed surgery on me and im very satisfied with my results so far. I would recommend him...
I went to see Dr. Shafer about knee pain. I was given an Xray and then told (after about a 5 minute "exam") that I had tendonitis. I'm not a doctor, but even I know you can't diagnose tendonitis from an Xray...especially without doing a thorough exam. He did not touch my knee at all, he did not observe its range of motion, or anything else that would be commonly expected during a knee exam. He recommended physical therapy, which would have made my issue worse. I didn't proceed with the physical therapy because I was not conv... read more
My husband is walking for the first time in about 10 yrs because Dr Shafer recognized that the pain that stopped him from walking was not arthritic but rather due to a blood restriction down his leg. He recommended a vascular surgeon and the problem was solved. I now, and only due to Dr Shafer (and of course Dr Smith, the surgeon)I have my husband back. Thank you, Dr Shafer!
one of the most egotistical and uncaring people in the medical profession that I had the displeasure to be involved with while needing help. I am a retired medical person myself!

Dr. Shafer was outstanding in every respect. I've gone to numerous orthopedic surgeons in the past for various injuries. He took all the time in the world to evaluate the situation with my left knee and advise me how best to go forward. I felt I had his complete focus during the entire visit. He indicated to me that I may be fortunate enough to be able to manage with my knee for the rest of my life without the need for surgery or a reqqplacement. That is the most ethical approach I can imagine.
Dr. Shafer has a wonderful PA who took H & P and ordered X-rays. Those were done immediately and I returned to my exam room for a few minutes while the X-rays were studied. Dr, Shafer and his PA came to my room and the doctor diagnosed my condition. He remembered that I had a knee scope less than two years ago and asked about the knee. He charted a course of action for the current injury and made sure I had samples of a medication. I think Dr, Shafer and his staff are awesome.
Had a torn rotator cuff on my left shoulder. He did the surgery on December 15th, 2015. after 12 weeks , I able to lift my arm above my head and the pain on a scale of 1-10 is a 4, when it was a 6-7 for the past two months. I can sleep on my left side without waking up.
