About this business
The tavern that rose from two fires to be the oldest restaurant in all of the town, is worth going to see based on History alone. The food, too, is a delicious range of traditional, home-cooked fare, made from scratch. The buffet menu offers a different variety of dishes each day and the numerous pies for dessert are a truly mouthwatering end to the meal. There is an event hall that seats up to 150 people. You can also pick up a couple of souvenirs to remember the trip from the small shop before you leave.

This establishment was founded in 1852 and is the oldest Restaurant and Bar in Iowa. We were there 6/14 for breakfast and Mike Breitbach, the owner, personally welcomed us. A very personable gentleman. He is the sixth generation of the Breitbach family to operate the restaurant and we were served by one of the seventh generation, Mike's daughter. The food is as amazing as I remember. We chose the buffet and was not disappointed. Best broasted chicken, mashed potatoes and the pies are out of this world. The crust is flaky and tender!
