Editorial fromYou know you're in for a treat when the complimentary bread plate arrives with warm cheddar biscuits and house-made apple butter. But that's just the start of a comforting and upscale meal at Branch Water Tavern. Retro chic describes both…

What did you say? – Went for dinner and sat in the very back room. with all the wood and brick, everybody's voice was bouncing off the walls. we just laughed at the fact that we could hear everyone's conversations blended together. I was definately ready to go by the time we left. the food was average, nothing amazing. Had salmon and my date had Kobe burger. it was packed, so the atmosphere in the bar was cool, but staff not really conversational with anyone but themselves. I like to converse with the bar staff and learn a l... read more
Wonderful Experience – I was at Branchwater on the 26th for the first time and really enjoyed it. We had a 7:45 reservation and were seated just past that time but it was ok. We were enjoying drinks in the bar. The chicken fried oyssters were amazing! The duck was cooked perfectly and the portion just right. Those who say the meal wasn't satisfying are probably used to getting portion sizes 5 times what it should be. Not every meal needs to be a mountain of food nor should it be. IGive the place a shot - bring your friends. ... read more
i will be a regular – BWT is very close to my house. I decided to check it out, when my sister visited me from New York. We had a great time. Our waiter was super helpful with the menu and drinks. there was warm bustling feel in the restaurant that we both enjoyed. love the bacon wrapped shrimp and chicken fried oysters. i had the salmon on lentils , which was perfectly cooked. we had the sticky toffee dessert.
If you want to pay a lot and stay hungry...and leave angry. – We had apettizers... ridiculously served and highly priced. Nothing was horrible, food wise, but nothing was memorable only the fact that every plate was so unsatisfiying in every possible way. Not even the bread was ok. It was my mom's birthday and we couldn't stop complaining instead of enjoying. The waiter was mean, the service was slow and not caring about our clear dissapointment. Not coming back. You shouldn't either. There are many wonderful places out ther... read more
RUINED my Valentine's Day – Ruined my Valentine's Day... Strong Points - None Weak Points My Husband called ahead of time to ask about their Valentine's Dinner menu and was informed that it would be a regular menu. We could not get a reservation until 9 pm, upon arrival the valet attendant demanded $5 dollars for us to SELF park! I could understand if this was a shared parking lot...The host sat us and we sat and sat. I saw the same 3 servers past us for about ten minutes without one greeting. Finally one came by we asked to... read more
EXCELLENT!! – We had the pleasure of trying out Branch Water with a another couple a few weeks back. When the place first opened, I did not know that they served food, so I was surprised to learn that they had a full menu. We ordered the mussels and oysters for our app. These were awesome. Our entrees included the venison, the strip steak, a chicken dish and the scallops. I tried each of these dishes and they were all cooked perfectly and very flavorful. I am not usually a game eater so I was very, pleasantly surprised with ... read more
maybe it will improve – I probably would have given this place 3 stars based on my meal, but my wife's meal was terrible. She had the NY Strip--seasoned with lemon, among other things. Suffice it to say, there is a reason you have not had a lemon steak. I had the duck, and it was very salty. I also take issue with the preparation in that the fat wasn't cooked to my liking. Sometimes duck fat is particularly edible and nice, but other times it's rubbery and has an odd taste. This duck fat favored the latter. I had a pretty go... read more
Third verse, no the same as the first – I had written a previous warm review and after our experience Friday night I felt there was nothing left to do but retract it. We had reservations at 9:30. We arrived at 9:25 and the hostess with the not so mostess told us our table would be ready at 930 or SHORTLY THERE AFTER, a sign clearly. We sat at the bar and had a drink. As time passed we watched couple after couple come in after us and get sat. It was now 10:00 and I inquired what the issue was. I was told they were a bigger pa... read more
Citysearch Editorial Review – Whether upscale comfort food is simply a trend or not, Branch Water Tavern has been successful at pleasing palates with reinterpreted heart-unhealthy foods. The exposed brick walls and dim light match the restaurant's tavern mission, as do Chef David Grossman's chicken-fried oysters and elevated bacon-wrapped shrimp and grits. But where Branch Water truly stands out is its drink list. Managing partner and beverage director Evan Turner has not only curated a vast and affordable wine list, but he'... read more
