You might pass by this casual and slightly funky place and dismiss it as just another hole-in-the-wall, but do not be fooled. Inside, it is done up with whimsical lighting and bright paint. The menu takes the best of Californian cuisine and fusion trends. The wait staff is as hip as the joint itself and just as accomplished. The entrees are imaginative, fresh and never less than very good. The wine list is also good, featuring Californian vintages.

O-V-E-R-R-A-T-E-D!!! – Overpriced food, cramped quarters and an unattentive staff. If I want to spend what I was charged for a salad, appetizer, and meatloaf plate I could have gone to Morton's for a real meal. The place was a joke right up until they "miscalculated" the bill for over $150 in their favor for the group I was with. I've eaten there twice...my first and last times.
Not that Great – Ok, am I missing something here...It's not that great. Good yes. I would recommend it for sure. But it's not one of the top places in the Bay...please!
It Rocks – These guys rock like no others in the Bay. Dedicated to great food and wine, and staff that are ready to party or pacify, make it all the more enjoyable. What ever happened to Penelope though?
Three words: BRING IT! – The Blue Plate kills it. By far the best comfort food in the city with an amazing & worldly wine list. The decor is selfishly hip with every detail just nailing it. Don't know where these foodies learned their culinary skills, but they certainly paid attention.
blue plate is something special – Really, really good food. They use a lot of organic ingredients. I got the roast chicken and it came with really good polenta crisps and grilled veggies. I usually find restaurant chicken to be dry but this was JUICY! The dessert was OK. I got a blueberry and nectarine pie. The crust had a good flavor but the pie itself wasn't warmed up and just ended up tasting regular. I recommend skipping and just walking a few blocks to Mitchell's Ice Cream. The service was friendly and efficient. And fo... read more
Great food and good friends – A small intimate place with a warm and friendly atmosphere. The food is tasty and very fresh. Foccacia bread is a speciality and delicious. Whenever I feel like relaxing, I visit the Blue Plate.
Loved it! – Great, down-to-earth, quality restaurant. We need more restaurants like Blue Plate.
fantastic!! – Imagination, combined with great fresh food and presentation, made our first visit to Blue Plate well worth it. We have added this restaurant to our 'favorites' list!!!
Exciting Entrees! – The Blue Plate has a wide variety of most delicious entrees. I particularly noticed that the entrees have accompaniments that compliment the entrees quite nicely. There are basically three types of dining areas: a diner style area in the front, a more formal dining area in the middle and a delightful outdoor dining area in the rear. Drop in for a great meal and fine wines. You'll be glad you did!
