The epitome of simplicity is characterized by this neighborhood glass-front eatery. It looks as if Miles van de Rohe designed the interior. Thus, the dining room can come off stark and barren in the name of hipness, but the menu offerings more than make Start with the signature Endive Salad blended with watercress, boiled potato and feathery greens. Rack of Lamb, Sea and Grilled Venison are just a few samples of the gourmet palate pleaser.

outstanding food! – I have to say I was a bit skeptical after reading reviews online. I didn't know if we were in for a great meal, or a noisy night of pretension. After reading the menu I was really worried - some of the ingredients sounded good, but they were combined in such a way that I wouldn't normally choose any of the items. The food proved me wrong. Two things stand out: an artichoke bisque with incredibly tender pieces of smoked duck, and the small handmade pumpkin spice donuts served warm with ice cream. The main ... read more
Skip it – The hype is sorely misplaced. Despite its clean and minimalist interior, you are assaulted when you walk in by the pungent aromas from the kitchen. Which is probably not a bad idea because you wouldn't want to smell what you're eating. The food tends to be either thrown together with little attention to flavors or sitting on a pot somewhere for too long. To top it off, the service makes you feel like you're on the conveyor belt of dining.
?!!? – The naysayers can stay home! This place takes care of the customer, serves original, fresh and tasty food, and has never disappointed me. If my 65 year old mother-in-law can see past the noise to the great food and cocktails then it shouldn't be a factor.
Not a romantic place – The concierge at our hotel made reservations at Blackbird for us for our anniversary. What a complete dolt he was. The place is stark and ugly. The noise level is deafening. The tables ares so close together it resembles a bar. I have no opinion on the food because we fled the place almost as soon as we arrived. The menu looked pretty limited though.
bright and enlightened food – Excellent! One of very few 5 stars I've given. Only weak point was mixed drinks were a little lacking. But 5 of us came to eat. Come late, then noise level wasn't too bad. Seared Maine diver scallops salad, boneless pork chop, venison, and desserts. All delicious! Not for the financially squeamish. Good wine selection.
can it get better than this??? – Blackbird is fantastic - it's good for a date (if you're into each other), with friends, etc. etc. Service is THE BEST IN THE CITY, food is FANTASTIC - fresh, presentation is unique, and taste...well just go and try it... always some specialities to taste, great selection of wine, best martinies...and cute and cool peope always there... P.S. Chef Paul is one of the nicest chefs I have met. And I met most of the really well known chefs in Chicago
