Pretentious !!! – My wife and I and two good friends who live in that neighborhood, had dinner at BP on Friday last. While the ambiance was pleasant, I have to say, that the overall impression of the food -the starters, the main course and the dessert was less than stellar, both in terms of preparation and quantity. Noisy but good service – I came here on a Saturday night with a group of six people. Service was very good. I ordered the calamari appetizer which was good, but was not the traditional deep-fried calamari dish; I probably wouldn't order it again. For my entree I ordered the scallops, which were very delicious but not very filling--they provide six scallops. Entrees do not come with side dishes--you must order a la carte. Great food, great atmosphere – Went to Black Pearl last weekend for the first time since they changed the menu format and was once again thrilled with the food (and everything else)! You'll find things from the old menu like the incredible mac n cheese and the excellent calamari, but now they have gone family style with entrees and sides to share. Great bar and a really cool ambiance – Really cool place, with an exceptional wine list - the food is great, with a special and original twist on many items, such as the 'unassembled' clam chowder...totally cool! The best part is the bar, with a unique layout and Nick the bartender is really great...and a plasma set for some sports in an unobtrusive location...well done.
Just okay...food a little above average, service weak – Went there last night with my girlfriends and wasn't overly impressed. I have been there once before and liked it but wanted to try again..we sat at the bar for a drink while the staff starred at us the entire time..either hadn't seen ladies in a while or maybe because no one else was in the bar??... A delight! – When reading the previous reviews, I got the sense that the reviewers must have eaten at completely different restaurants -- people either loved it or hated it. Put us in the former category. We went last night and found the atmosphere warm and inviting, the staff courteous, knowledgeable and attentive, and the food excellent, both in preparation and flavor. What a great place! – A friend took me here to cheer me up after a bad day and this place was perfect! The food was fantastic, the fire pit on the patio was sooo enchanting, the wine was awesome and the service was off the chart good. I've been to many of Denver's finest and this place will always be one of my favorites.
A wonderful evening. – A gentleman friend and I spent a wonderful evening in the Black Pearl last week. Upon arriving, we were given a short tour of the restaurant. It is a very comfortable, tastefully designed space. We chose to dine at the bar; and, were extremely impressed with the entire staff's accommodating nature. Management lesson – We went to the Black Pearl because it seemed cute from the outside -- remember that book/cover adage. We spent around $200 on appetizers -- some very good, some fair. But, enough about the food (pricey). We were so poorly treated by the manager there, we will never go back. The manager called us to his office to discuss what we had done (laughed during a story at the end of the evening -- note Citysearch describes it as a "noisy" place).
