I wanted to rent with Birwood. I went to a showing and turned an application in for one of their efficiencies. The next day, I went into the office and turned in a W2 that I had forgotten to give to them. When I was there, I was told, rather passively, that I wouldn't get the apartment because someone had turned an application for this same place the day before me. Advice from a former tenant - DONT WALK AWAY, RUN!
Poorly managed and maintenance is non existent. Repairs never done or half done.
STOP! Do not sign a lease with these people. Beyond the fact that their accountant Luke and (insert job title) Olivia are incredibly unorganized and all over the place. Originally, our lease started under the actual owners of the house at Suddeth Investments and they were great and on top of most things. Terrible. Absolutely TERRIBLE. The moment my roommates and I got the keys and went to the apartment, we were incredibly disappointed and angry. The apartment in question was not even properly cleaned. The hardwood floors were grimy and sticky. There were even crumbs and a rotten GRAPE on the ground. Furthermore, the place stunk strongly of cigarettes. It was as if the previous tenant had just moved. On top of the terrible sanitization of the kitchen, the bathroom itself was unpresentable. Zero stars the property that we rented was actually very dirty and also a lot of things were broken. They never fix anything the whole year we live there except when the toilet started leaking into the downstairs apartment and to top it off when weleft they charged us $50 for two lightbulbs. You have to be kidding me this is the shittiest service I've ever received in a property management I cannot believe they are still managing so much property in Madison I believe a two-year-old monkey could do a better job than they do. ... read more
This place sucks. Changed our rent and raised it up without telling us. Got a phone call saying we owed money. We told them we never knew this. They got defensive and said they sent out a letter. Too top it off our apart has mold spot forming. Hallways smell like mold and sewage. They don't plow in the winter. I don't know how this place is in business. If nothing changes soon. I will call an inspector. -100 stars.

I sent in an application with 2 other roommates and I asked them how long it would take for them to process my application and they said it would be done by Friday (I had turned them in on a Tuesday) When Friday came along, I called them and asked if the process was done yet, and they said no, it is still processing.
