About this business
The entire bar and restaurant is designed in dark, elegant wood with very stylish and comfortable furniture, chairs and booths--even the requisite fireplace--giving it a private club-like feeling. Beautiful multi-hued granite is used for the table tops and the bar, highlighting the overall design. The owner, Brett Anderson, (a lawyer, but we won't hold that against him) has done an excellent job of designing and furnishing the restaurant and has obviously spared no expense. Been going to the Big Steer sense I was a kid. The food is fantastic.
We had a party of 6 with 2 kids. They were very accommodating to get us seated. It was pretty busy for a Monday night. The server was very attentive. They have the best steaks and a large selection as well. The desserts were delicious and portions were huge. 6 people and everyone was happy and stuffed when they walked out. Our favorites the house dressing, the entrees we chose and the heath bar cake.
The staff at the Altoona Ia. Big Steer is absolutely tops! Our waitress was excellent too! Don’t plan on getting right in even with a “call in” until 1/2 hour later, just sayin.

Went to celebrate my birthday on Saturday. Got there at 4:15 and the place was already busy. Service was great and the food was amazing. The dry aged Porterhouse was the best steak I have ever had and Prime rib was top notch.
