Yesterday, MEMORIAL DAY, i visited Bayview Cemetery with my husband and my daughter's family, including my two grandsons (ages 4 & 8). We wanted to visit the graves of numerous family members buried at Bayview, including my dad and brother, 4 grandparents, great-grandparents, and other family members who have been interred there since 1910. I was SHOCKED and SADDENED to see the poor general maintenance of the cemetery, which was unmowed and overrun with weeds. Remove homeless from cemetery and clean up.
My children just visited the graves of their Father, Grandparents, and Great Grandparents and were yelled at and harassed by homeless living in the cemetery. Not only that grave stones were covered in feces. Our Grandparents stone was moved. We are devastated to find this at Bayview Cemetery. I will be notifying those responsible at the cemetery tomorrow.
i used to work there back in the 80's cant tell you how the staff is today but back then we took great pride in our work preping the final resting places and ill tell you we dug alot of them by hand mostly with spaded shovels and basically use the backhoe in the newer sections alot of fond memories
