A trendy Italian Flatiron favorite, Basta Pasta first opened in Tokyo in 1985. This small, sleek, often-crowded restaurant resembles an art gallery with different artists displaying their artwork. With an open kitchen designed in Iron Chef fashion, the entrees are cooked before your eyes and served by an attentive wait staff. From homemade pumpkin gnocchi to tasty pastas and pork chops to charcoal-grilled seafood, Italian-Japanese style is the way to go.

overpriced, unexciting – Host insisted I'd asked for a table for two, when I had walked in with two other people, held up three fingers, and said "table for three please." Fine, a misunderstanding, but he insisted that it was my error in a somewhat rude way. Entrees delivered five minutes apart - not acceptable. Food is competent but recipes are uninspired and almost minimal. Very noisy room. All in all I think you can do a lot better for the money.
