Basta Pasta

4.3

About this business

A trendy Italian Flatiron favorite, Basta Pasta first opened in Tokyo in 1985. This small, sleek, often-crowded restaurant resembles an art gallery with different artists displaying their artwork. With an open kitchen designed in Iron Chef fashion, the entrees are cooked before your eyes and served by an attentive wait staff. From homemade pumpkin gnocchi to tasty pastas and pork chops to charcoal-grilled seafood, Italian-Japanese style is the way to go.

Blah food, bad service. – We had made reservations for 9:30pm, went earlier cause we were in the neighborhood around 8:30pm. They couldn't accommodate us earlier, although it was obvious there were empty tables. But we were easy going so we just ate at the bar. I agree with the other reviews, the food was nice, but nothing special. You can't order wine by the glass, you have to buy a bottle. We weren't paid any special attention until we started spending money, and after spending $100 on just two people, we finally got a goo... read more

Bad Service – I rarelly write review for restaurants. Either it's fantastic or either it's really not worth trying. Plus I usually give it a second chance. However, this particular restaurant just make ppl disappointed. The service is really bad, even though food is not bad. Agree with previous review writers, the owner/maneger is rude and make ppl feel uncomfortable. Really a shame.

Great service, great food – I went with my wife during the week, we were really early and could get a table, the place was full within 1 hour. The food was excellent, Service was one of the best i had in NYC yet. I can recommend the Spaghetti Parmegiana with Procioutto, you will see :)

Above average food at reasonable prices, but service isn't great. – We came here for dinner. We had a large group and had made a reservation. We were seated quickly. I have to say that the service at this restaurant is odd at best, and perhaps just a step above incompetent. They are extremely careful about their menus and kept warning us not to break them and not to get them dirty. Whenever they wanted to get our attention, they would come up behind us and tap us on our shoulders. It was odd. The wine list is miserable and q... read more

Owner/Manager ruined the evening – Went with my brothers for a rare get together meal. The food was excellent and the service was attentive and polite. But the evening was ruined by the owner/manager who asked us to leave because there were people waiting for tables. I'm sorry, my brothers and I dropped over $300 to dine there for the rare occassion for us to get together and enjoy each others company. This is more important than anything. We didn't need to be told to leave just because we were spending an extra 1/2 hour aft... read more

good combination – What a wonderful combination of Italian food and Japanese service. Though at one point I had to hold back extreme laughter, I enjoyed my food and my experience. Apparently this place was inspired by Iron Chef - the entire kitchen is open and visible, except a small area in the back where they get the bread from. And speaking of bread, the service here is absolutely excellent. My bread basket and water glass were never empty, and I ate alot of bread and drank alot of water, so that's saying something. I ord... read more

Favorite place... – I love this quirky restaurant. The food is TERRIFIC. The ambiance is for all ages, types and yet feels hip and lively. From the art on the walls to the large cheese wheel that gets rolled around on a cart. I've had many birthday parties here, many dates, dining with friends and it's really my "go to" place.

Finally Good Italian Food in NYC! – I love this place! Great service, fabulous food and great art work! Open over a decade and just as good today as the first time I eat there. Highly recommend it for lunch or dinner but you may want to make a reservation as they seem to be busy and full almost every night and if that is not a good sign then what is!?

Below average. – First of all, the lighting in this place is ridiculous. It is bright and not flattering at all. Crowd was unattractive and extremely loud even though they were sitting half an inch from each other. As if that wasn't enough to ruin my appetite when I first got seated, the waiters and waitresses were unprofessional and had no personalities whatsoever. They were so weird. I don't think they believe in smiling or even talking. Seriously, they don't talk! I had the "Asparagus al dente" as the appetizer and it was... read more
