A trendy Italian Flatiron favorite, Basta Pasta first opened in Tokyo in 1985. This small, sleek, often-crowded restaurant resembles an art gallery with different artists displaying their artwork. With an open kitchen designed in Iron Chef fashion, the entrees are cooked before your eyes and served by an attentive wait staff. From homemade pumpkin gnocchi to tasty pastas and pork chops to charcoal-grilled seafood, Italian-Japanese style is the way to go.

Not Japanese Italian – This was way below anything you have in Japan as Italian food; I don't even know what kind of flavor they are trying to create. You may say the food is "delicate", in other words, it's "weak" and "uninspiring". The manager and the waiers were all rude. I would look pass it if the food was goof but it was below average in both Japanese and Italian standard. Sad to see if people think this is what Japanese Italian is all about because IT IS NOT!!I hope they would retrain the waiters and the chefs in Japa... read more
yum – I'm surprised it took me this long to write a review for this place even tho it was my favorite lunch spot for a long time. I went there last night for dinner and had a great meal. For appetizer I had my usual fav, Asparagi al Parmigiano (Al dente asparagus with golden parmesan crust) so good I always scraping at my plate after. For my entre I ordered the pasta special that night which was: Spaghetti w/ Italian sausage, collard greens(I ordered w/out) and tomatoes in garlic and oil --- this was delicious and I'm alread... read more
Great Salmon Pasta and Crispy Tender Baby Chicken Salad – I'm not usually a fan of mixing seafood and pasta, but Basta Pasta does it just right! You have to try the Bow-tie pasta with salmon, spinach & fresh tomatoes. Start off w/ the Crispy sauteed tender baby chicken w/salad and you are in for a well-rounded meal that you will be happy with. I had high hopes for the signature pasta - Spaghetti with parmesan reggiano cheese & Parma prosciutto - but found myself disappointed even though it was served in a giant cheese wheel ... read more
Basta Pasta beats any * Italian Restaurant in Little Italy! * and then some – I had worked with a co-worker whom was friends with the owner in Japan and heard it was a great places, it just took me a few years to go..... I had taken my girlfriend to Basta Pasta and I thought the atmosphere and the setting was very nice, we were greeted with alot of smiles. We ordered the 1 Fish Carpaccio of the day * Very clean flavors * 1 The Grilled Quail * very juicy and rare * 1The Chilean Sea Bass with the spicy Tomato Sauce and linguin... read more
horrible waiter – The service was just ZERO. I went with a group of 5 ppl and until 4 of us finish the main course and ready to order the dessert, my poor friend's main course didn't arrive. When we asked over and over when my friend's food was coming, the waiter with attitude and partly ignoring kept on saying it was coming soon. My friend couldn't wait any longer and wanted to cancel the order since everyone was done eating but they didn't let us...His food finally arrived and the waiter asked my friend "so you still want ... read more
Good pasta – This is one of my casual eateries. Their dishes are great, decor is clean & simple and love their open kitchen. This is not for a loud or large group and reservations are recommended (even for 2ppl). It you have particular orders or intricate wine list & explanations, this is not a place for you. Small birthday celebrations among 3-4 ppl are often typical and they do try to make it special by writing your/birthday person's name. If you want a special cake, please order 2-3 days in advance. This is one of those u... read more
Great food, not so great service – I thought the food was excellent (particularly the spaghetti dish that they prepare at your table), but if you're not Asian, the waiter practically ignores you. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is Chinese, Japanese, etc. Unless of course you don't mind being treated like a second-class citizen.
Food is Good.. Service is okay... – The service isn't the greatest on earth but this place does get packed and it's small so I can see why it's that way. I'm more concerned about the food being good and it's well done here. Especially since the food is not too heavy and really brings out the flavors of all the ingredients. Try it out and judge for yourself but the food is good anyway you look at it.
bad service! – i enjoyed the food the first time so i went back with a big group of people...i never met a waiter with such bad attitude and service...and the manager didn't do anything about it when we complained...we'll never go back again
