Wonderful food; service was fine. – Reading the prior reviews, I don't get it: "small plates" indicates "small servings." Right? And to be honest, the small plates had more than enough food on them! Good grief, must everything in this country be super-sized?! But to the food. I had dinner here twice in less than a week (completely by accident). So, I've had just about all of the small plates and enjoyed everyone of them. Especially the stuffed dates (something I generally don't like), the goat cheese with honey (superb!), th... read more

Expectionnal experience! – I had dinner few nights ago for the first time at Baraka and just wanted to share the wonderful time I had there with my friends. We did not have reservation, but even though the place was crowded the manager seat us within 20 minutes and offered us olives while waiting for our table. Once seated, the waitress came promptly and gave us recommendations on the menu. The flavors were amazing, matching the decor and the staff. I would recommend this jewel of Potrero Hill to anyone who wants to spend a ... read more

Evil Hostess! – This is how a good place goes bad. The hostess was so rude to us we almost left before sitting down. After looking at the menu we asked the hostess how many small plates she suggested for five adults and she told us 3 to 4 dishes each. We ended up with enough food for 20 people. She tried the same thing with the wine stearing us to the most expensive bottle on the list. We skipped that but she showed her true colors. I would not go back.

great experience – My party and I had a wonderful time at baraka. our waiter was very friendly and helpful. he recommanded us the ( amasing ) Goat cheese with onion jam and the squid ( very tender). my favorite entree was the seared tuna with fresh vegetables, and my husband the sirloin steak servec with socca fries ( a real delight for the palate). even full, we decided to go for a dessert, and ordered the beignets ( it comes with marmelade and yogurt); that was AMASING! we really had a great time and the excellent food hel... read more

Underwhelming, bland – I don't know which restaurant the Citysearch editors reviewed but it wasn't the Baraka I went to last night. The fava bean salad lacked zing and brightness, the soft shell crab was strangely flavorless and the accompanying aioli was sorely lacking any garlicky excitement. In contrast, the moroccan meatballs were almost overwhelmingly rich and gamy, so much so that I couldn't finish them. The chicken tagine with green olives had an unpleasant astrigent quality and lacked any depth of flavor. And the pal... read more

Good but Over-hyped – Stopped by for a first dinner, went with five small plates and one large plate. Had the lamb tartare. soft-shell crab, roasted dates, seared scallops, squab and monkfish tagine. All had good taste (best was the dates) but were inconsistent for my palate and a bit small. Decor is good (not great) and service is decent but at these prices I expect more. Room is a bit crowded and noisy with the tables quite close together, not very romantic. Overall an ok spot for the $$$ but I prefer Aziza...

Great Service – The service was excellent and very friendly which suits the atmosphere. The restaurant looks great at night with the colors and lighting giving off a warm glow. The restaurant is small so dont expect a lot of leg room when you get seated. Overall, the decor is warm and inviting. The food was very good, I tried: lamb kebob (best small plate I sampled), swordfish kebob (ok), stuffed dates (very good), scallops and squid (both very good), fava beans (good), almond rice pudding (very good) and the caramel creme w... read more

Baraka Rocks – I've eaten here about 4 - 5 times now and Baraka has consistently provided a tasty, pleasant evening. The service is top-notch when it is not busy, though a little bit strained when it gets jam packed, which seems to be most of the time. The small downstairs room is a great addition, providing an intimate loungy space with the same great menu as upstairs. A tad expensive for small plates, as the bill does add up quickly, but Baraka makes for a very nice evening, so in my view it is worth it.

great new find! – Last night I dined at Baraka with a large post-theatre group. We were seated in their lounge which is located in the building below the main restaurant. The decor was stunning (jewel red walls, velvet cushioned banquettes and candlelight) and the size of the room is percfect for a private party of 20. We were a group of 10 seated along with other smaller groups. The food was definitely the spotlight of the evening. I think we tried everything as we're somewhat partial to 'family-style' dining. Some of our f... read more
