This is the worst property management company I have ever dealth with. The owner Michele Backus is not honest. I would highly discourage anyone fron renting from Backus Properties. Whatever you may think of the rental, it is not worth the hardships & conflict you will experience dealing with Backus Properties. Do yourself a favor and read reviews from multiple sources before renting from Backus. Anyone giving a decent review of Backus Properties has clearly not moved out of their property yet, are "posing" as tenants or must be offered an incentive to write a positive review. It has been 38 days since we moved from our rental that we left in better condition than we received it. We are still asking, now arguing with them to show us receipts of charges they are trying to take out of our security deposit. They say the work has not been completed yet. In 38 days!??? Backus Property Management lowered the bar on property management firms, and then tripped over it. I only wish that I had read the reviews before I got involved with this firm. I have been renting an apartment in Salinas from this firm since October of 2015, and regret my choice of management firms. This is the property management firm to recommend to someone you hate.

Crooks. Unprofessional. Definitely think they're above everyone. Couldn't get a reason why my application was denied-either they don't know anything OR they just sit in an office not doing their job. They're lucky I had to even give a star because really, they need to get the pencils out their behinds.

Friendly but unknowledgeable about whether their properties are currently available or taken. I actually DID call in sick to view a property and after dragging the whole family there and calling for a third time was told that the property wasn't available and hadn't been available even from my first phone call. I won't rent a property managed by them, but if you do, protect yourself.

Called and spoke to Sally and really was amazed at the haughty and rude attitude. I have never known a management company that has no open availability on week-ends (to show a home) nor after 5pm Mon.-Fri. I was told to call in sick or take a day off to look at a particular property because they do not accommodate a working persons schedule.
