This place has the best steaks and meat in the state of Iowa !!!
Have been to B&B for lunch a couple of times but we usually go to get the best meat for my husband to smoke or grill. My son requested Burnt Ends for his graduation party so we went a week ahead of time to order and John had it cut down for us when we returned to pick it up. They were the hit of the party - everyone loved them and they smoked up so wonderfully.
Just visited for the first time, this awesome deli and meat market. Was greeted very warmly by John, felt like I’d known them for years, and a great sense of humor too! Ordered sandwiches to go and the pork tenderloin was huge but delicious! Once we make the move from Oregon to Altoona, we’ll definitely make this our go to place for meats and sandwiches. Thank you for the great service!
The worst. Purchased $650 meat. All fatty roast. Steaks where actually rotten and couldn't be eaten. The hamburger tasted nasty and smell bad when cooked. Do Not eat meat from this place.
Visited B& B Grocery today, was very pleased wth the great service by John. He helped me find the Chirizo I was looking for. Also cut some beef tenderloin, that look forward to enjoy tomorrow. Nice to have found a friendly local butcher shop the way they used to be. Thanks

This place is a true Des Moines treasure, and a not so well kept secret. If you haven't been, what are you waiting for? Nationally famous for their lunch, but also the last real old school butcher shop in town. John and Joe make everyone feel like family and will cut your steak to order. If you're a local and haven't been, you're truly missing out. If you're visiting and want to check it out; bring a bottle of bourbon unique to your native, you'll be happy you did.
