This recent addition to the Manhattan hotel scene combines both style and understated elegance with boutique intimacy. Opened in 1998, the Avalon mirrors the quietude of its Murray Hill neighborhood, and there is even afternoon tea served in the library. The rooms are tastefully decorated with stylish furniture and offer tremendous comfort. It is also close enough to Midtown for a quick taxi ride to take you to almost any fine restaurant, shop, museum or corporate headquarters in a matter of minutes.

Dont STAY HERE – Terrible
Horrible Management! – I have stayed at this hotel for the past 5 years. Both visits in 2007 & 08 have been less than favorable. Broken bathroom sinks, broken showers -- makes you question WHO is cleaning the rooms before your visit. Front desk were slow to respond, and the Manager only offered a Free Breakfast Voucher. Can you imagine using a washcloth to clean yourself and then heading to meetings all day long in Manhattan. Tried on numerous occasions to resolve my stay, but ultimately, the General Manager was beyond CLUEL... read more
Great hotel - would definately recommend it!!! – Have just got back from here and would definately recommend the Avalon. Great location, friendly and helpful staff, Rooms excellent size and comfortable. Will definately be going back!!,
location was good but Awful Service – We stayed at Jr Suite for 6nights, and we were unspeakably weary from those troubles we had everyday. The refrigerator in the room didn't work, so I asked the front desk to take care of this problem and went out. That night I came back and find there's no frige anymore. I told the front desk frige was necessary, but they could do nothing about it and we should stay there without frige for the whole night&day. Next day, as we came back to the room, then we couldn't find the remote control... read more
Grandeur and intimacy in a Corinthian-style boutique hotel. – The Scene This small hotel is located in a former office building in the Madison Park district, close to the Empire State Building and Herald Square. The intimate lobby features colorful Italian marble floors, columns and a coffered ceiling. Off the lobby, the mahogany-paneled library with fireplace has a clubby feel. The Details The 100 rooms and suites are decorated in serene earth tones and furnished in a traditional style. In the larger rooms, shoji screens se... read more
Mr. – We were here this past March and had a wonderful experience. Room was spacious, location is central, decor outstanding and the value was unbeatable. Staff will accomadate any needs it can. We found them to be quite cordial. We are returning in Dec. Look no further it's a gem.
UNBELIVABLE – I was in charge of planning thanksgiving vacation for my family of 25, The avalon made it easy and wonderful for us all to be together NOT to mention the Awesome service and impeciable staff A DEFINTE IN NYC
Unfortunately a pleasant one night stay was marred by a reocurring unresolved problem. Although my stay was paid upfront, the Avalon has now charged me for 2 additional nights that I neither reserved nor stayed at the hotel. Too bad, the stay was pleasant, but not worth paying for 3 nights when I stayed for one. Now, I won't be back. Not worth the additional hassle.
A great find! – We were able to get the Jr. Suite for $179, and it was well worth every penny. The Jr. Suite had two comfy queen-sized beds, a separate sitting room, and a gigantic bathroom. While the hotel is kind of hidden, it's in a great location -- right around the corner from the Empire State Bldg. The staff was always unfailingly polite, and the hotel itself is lovely. This hotel is on the top of my list for places to stay next time I'm in NYC!
