Over the last 21 years, this animal-rehabilitation center has treated and released more than 7,000 birds of prey, including eagles, hawks, vultures and owls. To learn more about these creatures, come by for a visit to Audubon Center for Birds of Prey. Twenty-two species are on view, including the famous bald eagles. The animals here cannot be returned to the wild, mostly because of health reasons. The center also hosts an adopt-a-wild-bird program.

Very disappointed in the lack of communication with this center, dodging and not returning phone calls from people that are just interested in the well being of the animals at the center. In my opinion, 2 baby owls were put down prematurely due to "re-allocation of resources" to animals that had a better chance of survival. Well, that's no excuse for me. Every one of them deserves a chance at life, even if they have to remain in captivity. And these guys weren't even given a CHANCE.

I was terribly upset and utterly shocked when I found out that the little baby Great Horned Owl (pictured above) was euthanized at the Maitland center 24 hours after it was brought in! The "experts" claimed it was due to Metabolic Bone Disease. My understanding is that Metabolic Bone Disease can be reversed by correcting the dietary deficiencies and administering calcium supplements.
