Whether you're an Ethiopian food buff or a neophyte, Asmara will come as a pleasant surprise. The food is classic Ethiopian, with excellent tebsy (pan roasted strips of beef), ketfo (chopped beef tenderloin with cottage cheese), and, of course, the ubiquitous injera (a flat, spongy bread used to pick up food in lieu of silverware). A wonderful restaurant with great food, friendly service., and a very nice owner! I've been a customer for decades, and have introduced many friends to their cooking as well. You can't go wrong here: this is one of Oakland's hidden culinary treasures!
