Love it! – I have been to Ashmont Grill a bunch - dinner with a group, brunch with the family, drinks and dessert at the bar with a friend, cozy romantic dinner by the fireplace on the patio. All my experiences have been fantastic overall. Maybe I've had the luck to always arrive a the right time, but I've never had to wait for a table even on busy nights. Favorite dish is the mussels with lots of garlic and a bit of spicy chourice flavor to them - I could eat a whole loaf of bread dipping it into that sauce! I particularly ... read more

great food/drink – First visit there, and the wreck fries were absolutely delicious, also had a pomogranite margarita, very good, along with the burger, no room for desert, cant wait to go there again, there was a long wait for the food, but i wasnt in a hurry so it was fine. went there looking for their new italian restaurant, which is down the street, but glad we ended up here instead.

Dorchester dining destination sports a healthy pedigree and a stylish bar area. – Chris Douglass, chef-owner of the South End's beloved Icarus, opened the Ashmont Grill near lower Dorchester Avenue. Afternoon menus include affordable, upscale comfort fare like house-cured pastrami Reubens. Area singles fill a modern bar and nibble on grilled pizzas, while dinnertime patrons enjoy entrees--none of which top $20--like St. Louis-style BBQ pork ribs and wild mushroom lasagna. An attractive backyard patio provides cool summer bre... read more

try the mussels! – the mussels are fantastic. great with a coupla glasses of wine... love this welcoming and comfortable place! can't wait until the weather permits us to dine outside on the patio. little know fact: the tables and bar top were created by a local artisan who crafted them from cherry trees harvested in the neighborhood. Insider Parking Tip: use the All Saints church parking lot. Or drive up Talbot and turn left onto Alban, or Welles to Ocean Street, to park on Ashmont, resident parking ends at 6 PM. And same o... read more

Finally!!! Great food and family friendly – I've been for brunch and dinner and thoroughly enjoyed it both times. I'm so happy to have a place with great food for the parents and the kids (i.e. we both enjoyed the mac and cheese). The music (80s R&B the night I was there) was great; decor relaxed and service always with a smile. Looking forward to going to the Monday night wine tasting. If you live in Dorchester and haven't checked it out yet...go....now!

Great food, great place – The Ashmont Grill is a great little bistro! The food is really good and the staff are friendly. Living so close to it I go often. It's great to have this gem in the neighborhood. It's eons above the other crappy places that are close by. I mean, how much crappy pizza and greasy food do you really want to eat. The neighborhood is great and very diverse. i'VE NEVER had a bad meal there yet! I read a review from someone named "Wolfe..." who stated not to go into the neighborhood Well ain't that a blip ... read more

Superlative experience – I simply cannot effuse enough compliments about our experience. We were seated promptly and attended to regularly throughout the night. Our water glasses were always full and our food was brought promptly. Our many specific demands (based on some finicky eaters) were accomodated nicely. The food was simply great. From the salads, to the generous main courses, to the sumptuous desserts, this "tough to please" crowd was wowed. The prices were very fair and the ambience was fitting for a neighborhood re... read more

Poor service, Nice atmosphere – My girlfriend and I went to the Ashmont Grille this past Sunday. We were seated right away (it was almost 8PM), which would have been great if it didn't take our waitress 10 minutes to greet us. After having our hearts set on the Cod that the couple next to us had recommended as delightful, we were informed by our waitress that they had just sold the last one. Strike two. Next, I set my sites on the Ginger soup. When it arrived, it took me a few spoonfuls to realize that it was definitely not ... read more

It is what it is – Chris Douglas was looking to create a comfortable upscale restaurant in the "hood". He has accomplished just that. When there is already a wait at 5:30, you know he's doing something right. The Ashmont Grill is friendly and relaxed and the food is creative, comfort food. I'm not sure he was sincere in his goal to make it affordable for local families. The original price of entrees is reasonable but it is served a la carte, even down to the bread. Dinner can add up when all is said and done. But the salads ... read more
