Arthur Bryant's Barbeque

About this business

Kansas City is famous for its barbecue, and this restaurant is one of the reasons why. Arthur Bryant's has been serving up slabs of slow cooked pork and beef since the 1930's. The small building is nothing fancy and resides in a somewhat disreputable part of town, but diners do not necessarily come for the ambiance. Nevertheless, Mr. Bryant has a couple of other locations around town. Casual dining is an understatement here, where guests line up, sometimes waiting up to 30 minutes just to order at the counter. Be sure to ord... read more

have gone for years,but..... – My family has been going to Arthur Bryant's for years. We especially love the beef platter. That's a pile of beef, fries, and lots of pickles and bread. The last few times we have gone the portions are half of what they used to be. The beef is entirely too fatty and they didn't even put bbq sauce on the beef. We are so disappointed and we will not ever go back. What's going on?

Excelent – bbq so good you don't need the sauce because the meat already has a great smoke flavor.

ORDER TO GO! – Living in Denver I learned of Arthur's watching the Food Channel on TV, inturn when I found out a co-worker was traveling thru KC I mapped out a stop for him at Arthur's. To my suprise he brought back an order of sausage, beef and pork. Adding the travel time and reheating the food, it still stood up to the ratings on the T.V. show. Now everytime he goes home to Kentucky he has a standing order 'to go' on his return trip. Sorry, I can't rate the Ambience, service , etc. but since the system will not take my co... read more

TASTY – I have seen this place on TV a few times. I was in KC and had to try it since I'm from Texas and use to having Texas BBQ. The place is nothing fancy at all but the effort and work is in the food. The BBQ is very good and the sauce is good which compliments the BBQ. It is different than Texas BBQ but it is very good. The wall has several famous people that have visited this place, like Emeril. I have read bad reviews about this place which everyone is entitled to do so. This is a BBQ place that is in a risky part of K... read more

Overrated – I've eaten here several times due to the great reputation it has. The meat was usually served room temperature. The sauce is an acquired taste; very peppery and with a distinct taste of celery salt. Not sweet and tangy. The place is not very clean. Overall I'd recommend L.C.'s, Jack Stack, and many other barbecue places over this one.

King Arthur – The crowd is a mix of hard hats and high heels. The tables are formica topped, the silverware is plastic, and the lines are long, but worth the wait. Arthur Bryant knew tomatoes were meant to be mixed with molasses and slathered on meat. The place could use more room, a broom, and more napkins.
