Kansas City is famous for its barbecue, and this restaurant is one of the reasons why. Arthur Bryant's has been serving up slabs of slow cooked pork and beef since the 1930's. The small building is nothing fancy and resides in a somewhat disreputable part of town, but diners do not necessarily come for the ambiance. Nevertheless, Mr. Bryant has a couple of other locations around town. Casual dining is an understatement here, where guests line up, sometimes waiting up to 30 minutes just to order at the counter. GREAT BAR B Q – We drive from St. Louis to get Arthur Bryants bar-b-q. If you do not get full with a sandwich and fries than you have a larger than usual appetite. I do only go there during the day as the neighborhood is not the best.
I'm glad I didn't miss it – Just a really really cool place. Unassuming and plain but great bar-b-q. I'm happy I took my time while riding my Harley Davidson from L.A. to Milwaukee to stop by. The news about the place had spread to Sweden. Overcoming the unfriendly staff, I found the food was great. Some of the guests where real afficionados and that was part of the experience. Go there, do it - eat (but not the chicken). Buy a steak sauce with you. Do it once in life. Risk is that you won't come back.
A gritty barbecue landmark where meat lovers relish the burn of the cayenne- and paprika-spiced sauce. – The Scene Arthur Bryant was headed for Texas when a stop in Kansas City changed both his life and barbecue history. His original restaurant in the 18th and Vine District retains its brusque, rough-and-tumble atmosphere. It's a barbecue mecca where presidents, poets and paupers have dined. Some complain that Arthur Bryant's rests on old laurels; others insist that such steadfastness is a virtue. Judge for yourself. And don... read more
Hell yeah! – Arthur Bryant's is THE pinnacle of BBQ mastery. Is that redundant? Well it's deserved. The food here is the reason you should make the drive from anywhere, but get a map if you're not from KC. Actually, I'm hesitant to even recomment this place, for fear that it becomes too commercial. But Arthur Bryant's pulled pork and or beef sandwiches are the best. The big-ass handful of fries they give you isn't bad, either.
very good but not the best – Bryants is the undisputed "King of BBQ" in KC - HOWEVER, not necessarily the best. I like their sauce and think it is the best but the meat is a bit fatty. If you have not been there (and you like BBQ joints) this place is a must - definitely unique and historical and the food is great. Now, for the best smoked meats - especially the pork and chicken -my vote for the best in KC goes to Oklahoma Joes. I've eaten BBQ in KC for almost 50 years now and have tried them all - all on this list are good ... read more
BBQ Dude – This could be the best barbecue around: KC has so many great choices. Still can't figure out what's in the sauce. Need a backpack to carry the sandwich & fries to-go. Ribs are nearly as good as Doug's in Stilwell KS.
Still the Worlds Best BBQ – The tradition lives on ... Old man Arthur must still be running it from heaven. Oh its not quite the same, but it still beats anything else in the world of BBQ for beef brisket sandwiches and ribs. I'm not fond of BBQ pork or turkey sandwiches anywhere & AB's is no different. AB's chicken is not the best. The sauce tends to dry it out. But AB's still cranks out the best brisket & ribs. Fries still great too. Atmosphere is pure Arthur Bryant's classic. For lovers of real BBQ, the atmosphere at AB's... read more
THIS IS THE BEST BARBEQUE PERIOD. I HAVE TRIED BARBEQUE ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. A LOT OF PLACES TRY TO CLAIM THE BEST BARBEQUE...IF YOU HAVE NOT TRIED ARTHUR BRYANT'S BARBEQUE, YOU HAVE NOT HAD THE BEST YET.
Awesome Food – This place has great food. It's not fancy inside so don't expect any ambience. Expect good food and lots of it. By nice to the guy that makes your sandwich - slip him a couple bucks and you'll get a BIG sandwich and a grin! This is a joint. It's a place where you wouldn't walk the streets alone at night nor would you wait for a bus. But you'll venture down into this older, rough neighborhood to satisfy your lust for barbecue. Ya gotta have a Red Creme soda while you're there, too!
