About this business

This Inner Sunset neighborhood co-op, affiliated with Berkeley's Cheese Board, just may ruin you for any other bakery. They bake a wide range of breads, with a whole list of specials every day. They turn out specialty scones and muffins all baked with tender loving care. Kids love the crispy and cheesy bread sticks. If it's more than just a snack you're looking for, join the throngs filing in from the far reaches of the city for a slice or four of Arizmendi's famous pizza. They top each one with a different combination of th... read more

Arguably the city's best pizza, bread and breakfast treats--all in the same place. – In Short There's one bench and a couple of chairs for pizza eaters to perch on while munching, but this is really a takeout sort of place. Thin-crusted sourdough pizza is crammed with different toppings daily. While the bakery makes a variety of breads each day, the sourdough bread is good enough to come back for. Rolls, cheese, yogurt and pastries--including chocolate cake--are available to make the start of your day a little sweeter.

Probably better in the a.m. – ...when the goods are freshly baked. stopped by in the afternoon to try after reading many rave reviews. Brioche was pretty good, a little dry. Challah roll was decent but, again, a little dry. Strawberry Foccacia was really hard and chewy and not as flavorful as it appeared to be. Will try the pizza next time.

Scones, Cookies, Pizzas, Breads- they do it all! – Arizmendi is the BEST in town- everything is FRESH, served with a smile, and their food is the BEST to be had in the neighborhood! Their scones are de-lectable (slightly crumbly but moist and a little salty) and their pizzas of the day always make my mouth water! Everything is made fresh daily and their breads are the best in town! It's worth the long waits on weekends and even one some weekdays- get there well before afternoon for the best selection! They have 'half baked' ... read more

Delicious! – It's clear why the line at Arizmendi is always out the door, the bread is fantastic and the pizzas are to die for. ( rhyme not intended) This fun neighborhood place is one of the "jewels" of the inner sunset.

Dee-licious! – This tiny co-op bakery is a wonderful spot for baked goods. Most of the pastries are self-serve, displayed in plexiglass cases. The selection is not very large but what they do have is fantastic! I grabbed a pecan roll and a coffee ($3) and sat by the window. The roll was loaded with nuts and raisins, the pastry was coated with a delicious sticky brown sugar glaze. There is not much seating so more than likely you'll have to get your snacks to go. Service is friendly, employees are also co-owners. I heard the ... read more

My favorite bakery! – Pizza menu changes daily. One of my favorites is topped with carmelized onions, ricotta cheese and basil pesto. Just the thought of walking into the bakery filled with delcious baked goods and happy neighbors gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling.

average at best – The scones at Arizimendi are definitely tasty, but the bread is frequently undercooked. I used to live near Cheeseboard (Arizmendi uses their recipes) and their baguettes were consistently perfect. It seems like Arizmendi concentrates on pleasing the average American's sweet tooth instead of the perfect loaf of French or sourdough, which I find much more appealing.

Great sourdough! – The seeded sourdough baguette pieces are a perfect balance of chewy exterior and moist interior--great to take home and use for sandwiches. In the morning, there is nothing better than a warm brioche knot with raisins. mmmm....people who work there are friendly. It's a great place!
