Not bad, not great Calamari was fair, Manhattan claim chowder was all tomatoes and carrots. Fish & Chips - fish was quite good, french fries were standard. Irish shop attached was nice.
Dont miss it, it is worht going to The best Scottish and British restaurant around. Famous for the fish and chips you can also order meat pies soups and many other foods. Nestled in the middle of the Pipers Cove on Kearny Avenue, this is a great spot to sotp for lunch. On Scotish holidays if you fancy a try, they will bring out a haggis just for you. On specail days they have all the pomp and circumstance of the day including the presentation of above named haggis. A fun place for all ages.
Fish and chips here! Great food! Kearny has always been known for its great fish and chips and especially for the Argyle. The portions are really good and the food is excellent. The Argyle has been around for years and has a great reputation. The prices are average and the atmosphere is great. Itâs one of the two restaurants in town that still does a great fish and chip. I would highly recommend it for a good dinner and a great night out.
Excellent They catered a party that I was having and boy was I impressed. They didn't charge very much per person, set up the buffet table, and provided tons of delicious food. Their restaurant is great as well.
Dingy Have just returned from the Argyle feeling very disappointed. I'm Scottish and grew up in Scotland regulary eating fish and chips and even working in a chippie while I was at school. A fish and chip restaurant serving frozen chips in Scotland would have been burnt down by an angry mob!! The decor was very dingy, not reflective of anywhere I have ever eaten in Scotland and overall quite dirty. The only good point was that the staff were friendly, but unfortunately that does not make a restaurant.
Soggy and frozen..YUK As a Scottish lass growing up in Scotland and having worked in a fish and chip shop I love a good fish supper. Having been to the Argyle quite a few times before my hubby and I decided to pop in last night for two fish suppers to go. We couldn't wait to get home to eat them but much to our dissapointment the fish was soggy with no taste and the chips were freezer chips.. Sorry to say Argyle Restaurant we won't be back...
What a disappointment! What a disappointment! The Thistle closed in January. There is only one Scottish place left in Kearny, and it was abysmal! Food was horrible, service was slow as molasses and left a lot to be desired, even the soda was flat. Steak pie that mom had was shredded stew meat - with two pieces of sausage for flavor - with a small piece of pastry laid on top. The scotch egg was breaded before it was fried. The place was dirty. In my opinion, the wrong place was left standing.
fish and chips fish and chips- the batter and scald were perfect. However, the fish was as thin as a mcdonalds regular hamburger patty. and there was only one of them. the chips can be found anywhere. the price for this child sized portion? $14.00? Absurd.
Absolutely AMAZING Argyle's is the absolute most amazing fish n chips. Have been to England & Ireland, they are fabulous. Would travel anywhere in the state to see them.
