4.5

About this business

A man-made lake provides refuge to wildlife and dozens of tame ducks, providing entertainment for the diners at this long-established San Diego seafood restaurant called the Anthony's Fish Grotto. It also makes the hour-long dinnertime wait much more pleasant for kids and adults alike. Seafood is the best bet here and the daily specials offer great value and delicious preparation. The Clam Chowder, from Anthony's matriarch Mamma Ghio, is renowned, a rich red broth liberally studded with tender clams.

I grew up going to Anthony's. I now live in Arizona and make sure to get back to Anthony's any time I'm back in San Diego. This trip our group had the fish & chips, Norwegian salmon and the platter with lobster, shrimp and salmon. Anthony's did not disappoint! Our server (I believe his name was Jose) was EXCELLENT! Dinner was absolutely over the top!

We usually sit outside because we bring our cooker. The service is excellent and you are not rushed. Very good food.

Now due to the closure of the downtown location they are changing up. This was Wednesday midweek at 6pm. Party of 5, the hostess took us to a booth - not enough room! She then asks us to return to the front while she preps a table. She comes back and tells us the table is ready but no room for the wheelchair. There was no one in a wheelchair. We po... read more
