No poppies yet. We were scouting the surrounding area. Found a pair of ravens nesting in a dormant tree near 160th st west and Lancaster road. We really enjoy the wildflowers. We didn't go into the Poppy preserve office building, perhaps next time.

Should get 5 stars most of the time. Haven't been for a couple years but the last time it was extraordinarily beautiful. My first trip was a mistake I wanted to be the first one there, so my friend and I arrived about 8 am. We learned that the early bird doesn't see the poppies. They bloom when the sun warms them up! We took a ride up to Lake Elizabeth and when we came down it was a breathtaking sight.A must see! Just remember they are fragile, please don't allow your children and pets to run through. Flowers or not, this park is simply extraordinary. When the poppies are in bloom, sometime around March-May, depending on Mother Nature, the displays are breathtaking. However, the real natural beauty shows through when the showy displays are dormant. THe quiet, broken by an occasional meadow lark song is restorative. The hiking trails reward you with stunning 360 views of the rural West Antelope Valley.
