This restaurant in the heart of the Castro serves some of the freshest seafood away from Fisherman's Wharf. The service and decor of the restaurant are simple. Diners order at the counter and seat themselves at small tin tables and chairs. All the seafood is fresh from the ocean, including the steamed crab and steamed mussels. There tends to be a large lunch contingent, so dining during off hours is recommended. You can also buy fresh seafood here to make your own culinary creations at home.

Try the garlic prawns Anchor Oyster Bar is a great little place I got the pleasure to visit while in San Francisco. The menu isn't huge but there was enough to choose from. I ordered the garlic prawns and my meal was amazing. I highly recommend this resturant.
Favorite Seafood Place During the Winter What's cozy and a perfect spot to duck into on a cold San Francisco night for warm vittles, simple libations and an oyster shooter to boot? Anchor Oyster Bar in the Castro. After months of not going, we met up with some buddies for an early dinner. We started with a sweet Anchor Oyster platter of a dozen oysters (beau soleils, kumotos, miyagis and cape cods), succulent cherry stone clams in a thyme, wine, butter broth, and shrimp. I had the Cioppino and was floored by the high quality... read more

Fabulous food!!! So fresh!!!
Now I know why there’s a huge wait list board at the front door. Never been here in my 30 years here. What I’ve missed! Love this little tiny oyster diner tucked away in the Castro. Harvey Milk might have sat there.
I’ve never had real fish before, and honestly this place has changed my life. I thought I didn’t like fish, it turns out that I just didn’t like the bad stuff. I had one of the best meals of my life here! The food was outstanding, the service was fantastic, and the wine was superb! This was recommended to me by a fantastic sales person at Rituals in the Westfield Mall, and I am so grateful because this was truly one of the best meals I’ve had!
