As someone who lived and worked in Ames for a small business for almost 5 years, I can say this organization along with the city did absolutely nothing to support local businesses. I saw a member with AREA (formerly known as Ames Chamber) come to our business just three times in all the years I worked in Ames and that was to peddle their "Gold Membership" which offered virtually no perks. Just received another unsolicited copy of pat-ourselves-on-the-back Ames chamber "news." Addressed to "resident." I don't live in Ames, never will, it is like they are stuck in the 1950's as this mailer demonstrates - total lack of concern for resources or what people want - it is more what the businesses they represent, and the city they advise via the AEDC, want you to have.
