My husband and I met my sisters and their husband here for lunch, we chose it as Bay City is a half way point for us and The American Kitchen had great reviews. We were not disappointed, service was good, food was good, only slight issue would be how small it was so always a line of people waiting for a table which made us feel rushed a bit and limited menu, mostly bugers no sandwiches but other than that great place!

Believe me when I say that we wish the place was a little bigger, too, but unfortunately we crammed the kitchen area into the smallest possible footprint and there was no way to add more space to the building. We are a burger bar, for sure, with several varieties of grilled cheese as our only sandwich options. The first time I went the service was good, food was hot and tasted good. Second time I went service was very slow and food was not hot. I sat at the bar on two occasions and was very disappointed that I was looking straight into the kitchen. Something needs to be done about seating people in a location that looks directly into a kitchen.

Regarding the restaurant design, open kitchens are a popular trend in modern restaurant design and in the case of AK, going with an open kitchen both fit the design of the restaurant and allowed us to have a couple additional tables we wouldn't be able to have if we closed the back of the restaurant off. Please let the host know that you'd like to sit away from the kitchen and they'll be happy to accomodate you.

We had Nasty way over priced food, we will never go back. We were the only people there and it still took forever to get the food, nasty!!!

Hello. I am sorry to hear that you weren't happy with your visit to American Kitchen. The wait staff have to adhere to the times of specials because it is programmed in our point-of-sale system that way. I apologize for the confusion over the charge for the side of mac & cheese. The waitress should have explained that it is not one of the seven side dishes included with your meal and that there is a charge to upgrade to one of the appetizers.
