This association is the very definition of selfish, greedy, exclusivist that sucks the life out of every mountain biker in the nation. Cycling is not destructive to the environment or natural habitat anymore than hiking and far, far less than horses and motorized vehicles! Most of the trails that people hike in the first place are created and maintained by mountain bikers! I vote for inclusivity on trails for non-motorized users. There isn't enough land for every user type to have their own trail systems.
I think the American Hiking Society is doing the absolutely right thing by protecting the experience of hikers. Several weeks ago I asked the International Mountain Biking Association what would they do if ATV's wanted to take over one of their Mountain Biking Trails and IMBA has yet to give me an answer on that one. I would think they would want to defend their trails just like what the AHS is doing.
What a joke. I can't stand when an outdoor group can't support their position with reason and science. Just another silly political stance and for what reason?
