Just Like Mama's – As an Italian who could still smell the armoa of her mother's gravy (we call it gravy, not sauce!) on Sunday morning simmering on the stove, Aleo is the next best thing! The rigatoni with the beef ragu tasted homemade. And understandably so, when I found out from my waitress that it is a recipe of the owner's mother. But that wasn't the only mouthwatering dish on the menu. We also had flatbread pizza and stuffed calamari appetizers to die for. The yellow fin tuna entree was also a great choice. The cheesec... read more
Bar: Great Drinks, Great Food – Okay, so four of us headed uptown after work (we're Wall Street amigos) with the intention of ducking into Aleo (on the recomm. of a buddy who couldn't join us that night). The plan was to have a few drinks at the bar (we heard they make great martinis), then dinner in the dining room. We never made it passed the bar. That's how great the drinks AND FOOD were at the bar. Surprisingly the bar was lively and happening, so we started with some real interesting and creative martinis, along with th... read more
Manhattan's best kept secret in Italian cuisine! – What a find! Tucked away on a side street off Fifth Ave., this is classic, authentic Mediterranean Italian at its finest. Add the simple but elegant environment (the outdoor garden, I hear, is simply romantic in spring and summer) and spoon-fed wait service (they'd probably feed you if you ask), and this is truly a perfect package. From the homemade mozzarella, to the fresh calamari, to the pasta sauces that I later learned are recipes from the owner's mom, Antoinette Raimon... read more
BEST IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD – I live in Gramercy Park, and have been to most of the restaurants in the neighborhood. Given, ALEO is a different sort of place than Veritas or Gramercy Tavern. It is a great neighborhood find. The staff is friendly and delightful, and the food is amazing for this out-of -the-way neighborhood Italian restaurant. I had the seafood medley, and my guest had the steak. We both enjoyed everything. The owner stopped at the table and offered an after dinner complimentary cordial which was much appreciated.... read more
Completely Disappointing – This was probably the most disappointing dinner i've had in New York in years. I dine out regularly and not only was the service awful but the food was barely edible. The lobster bisque didnt have lobster in it. The pasta tasted like it was out of a can and cooked an extra 15 minutes and then left to cool off. The seafood platter was equivalent to something you would get at Red Lobster in Indiana. The wine they recommened but must be half off at the distributor bc it was terrible. Something I could... read more
Not worth your time – Came here with a few friends after reading all the great reviews. Very disappointed with the service and food. Not worth spending your evening here.
Great fgod and service top notch. Highly recommend. – I've been to Aleo twice in the last month and will definately go back soon for a third trip. The service is prompt and friendly, the food is commendable and the prices reasonable. The wine list is impressive. Highly recommended.
Cozy and warm – two friends and i went for a quiet evening at aleo and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. the food was extremely tasty, service was very good and the drinks kick ass!we were not able to get the garden but we were still happy regardless. just writing in to give my many thanks.
Business response:
We appreciate the thanks and the positive feedback, hope to see you again!!!
Simply one of the best – i love going to aleo..the staff treat me as a VIP.they're very warm, friendly and very accommodating.and i noticed that it's not just me who get treated like that. Whenever i go there for dinner or drinks i can see that they give impeccable service to everyone. My favorite server, Danny, is one of the finest servers you can ever have. He knows his stuff and never fails to make the tables happy. I had never had an encounter when service was poor or the tables were complaining. He anticipates what the ... read more
