Great outdoor ambiance – Discovering Aleo was lucky for us. We were driving by and decided to park the car in the garage right on the same street. Glad we found this restaurant! We?ve been back twice since. And we always sit in the outdoor garden. Pasta is creative with great tasting sauces, and this coming from a traditionalist who usually eats pasta with basic marinara. A must-have is the pasta with pancetta, peas, mushrooms and onions in a cream sauce. I've had it twice out of the three times I've been there, that's how m... read more
Great with a date – Impress your lady. She'll think you really know your stuff about Manhattan's best restaurants. If you want trendy and crowded and tourist places, then Aleo isn't for you. If you want service and royal treatment that makes you feel special, food that's a cross between homemade and unique, and a great dining experience in a comfortable and pleasant setting, I highly recommend Aleo. Make reservations and ask for outdoor garden seating.
Best appetizers. – What a great restaurant! What it lacked in mood, which wasn't all that bad, just kind of plain, it more than made up for in the food and service. And isn't that why we all go out to eat. I'll get right to the best. Appetizers: flatbread pizza was unbelievable; fresh mozarela, tomato and basil best of the two. Aleo tart, a fluffy and flaky and off-the-charts tasty pastry stuffed with cheese, olives, fennel and carmelized onion. And the yellow fin tuna tartare was probably the best of the choices. Dinner: Shr... read more
When you go to Aleo, ask to be seated in the outdoor garden even if you have to wait. Bar is comfortable place to wait, or just make a reservation so you don't have to wait at all. We waited because we didn't have a reservation. Garden is beautifully landscaped and has these very tranquil waterfalls. Very relaxing and inviting, which made dinner even better, not that the food at this restaurant needs any help. By the way, read some of the review on Citysearch that were very helpful in us selecting Aleo. We had tuna and a sal... read more
Make you feel special. – We came down to the city from Connecticut for my birthday and went to Aleo on the recommendation of a co-worker. We wanted to go to I Trulli but were swayed by this co-worker. There were 10 of us and I figured a lot was riding on this recommendation. It was my birthday so I was going to have a good time no matter where we went, but I didn't want anyone in my party to be disappointed. I'll give you the punchline now: NONE OF US WERE DISAPPOINTED. Aleo IS GREAT. We arrived and the table wasn't ready so... read more
Great romantic setting – My husband and I decided to do an overnight in the city for our 15th wedding anniversary, so we wanted to have dinner in a special place since we had a day free from kids, family and obligations. But the restaurant didn't necessarily have to be a trendy place and one that everyone goes to. Relaxing and good food would be fine with us. The desk person at the hotel recommended Aleo. She had a friend who used to wait tables there. So we figured we'd give it a try since we really don't know the city and ... read more
best pasta around – In from out of town recently and just getting a chance to give props to this great little restaurant in NYC called Aleo. Yo, the food is intense. Servers kept it real. None of them had a NY attitude like most restaurants there. Baby lamb chops exploded with flavor as did the seafood medley, which had a lot going on but you could still make the distinction of all the flavors and different types of fish that was in it. You ain't missin anything by not going to Ruth Chris because the steak at Aleo was probab... read more
Super espresso martini, super bar, super food, super time. – Check out the bar at this place if you just want to have a few drinks without the crowds and amateurs. A few of us just intended to have a few drinks after work, but we ended up ordering some appetizers and sandwiches from the bar menu, a hearty platter of meats and cheeses, some grilled tuna and chicken sandwiches, and lamb pitas that were over stuffed with the best tender lamb I ever had, which is why I went directly to the baby lamb chops when we decided to stay... read more
Best Find in Gramercy/Flatiron Area – This clearly is one of the best restaurants in the city for Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. Our dining experience was fabulous, starting with the way we were greeted by the owner at the entrance. The friendly and welcoming environment, and the simple but elegant decor, really set the tone. Our server was remarkably knowledgeable of the wine list and poured as if she was a sommelier. The menu had some wonderful and unique and creative choices, so our group went with a few traditional d... read more
