Ajo Lotta Nuthin' – Decent portions of uninteresting, bland, overpriced Mexican fare. Frequented by snowbirds and timid office groups seeking a joint that wont offend middle of the road tastes but winds up disappointing all but the least discerning, cheese-loving palates. Plan to spend part of your weekday lunch hr finding a parking spot down the street, while your companion waits in a line inexplicably extending out the front door. Service ranges from OK on weekdays to abysmal on weekends, when it's less crowded. Better Mex... read more
Exceptionally disappointing – In a nutshell this place is overpriced and average at best. I ordered a shrimp fajita plate. They brought me four full sized flour tortillas and a sizzling plate of green peppers and onions. Mixed in with the vegetarian platter that I guess I must have ordered, they mixed in 8 medium size shrimp. I had to cut the shrimp in half to fill my tortillas. My wife ordered the pimento cheese dip, which tasted strikingly like a velveeta base with some additional peppers tossed in so they could charge you... read more
fantastic – Great place to catch some mexican food. My favorite is the Pollo con Queso, it's smothered in cheese and enough for leftover lunch the next day. The salsa is spicy and the service is usually quick. They have an outdoor misted patio that's fun too. I've never had a problem with smelling smoke from the bar while eating my dinner in the restraunt.
This Place Is Awesome! – I don't know what the other reviewer is talking about. Ajo Al's is one of the best mexican restaurant' in Phoenix, esp the 16th an Camelback locations. Outrageous margaritas, ICE-COLD mexican beers, and terrific salsas. And by the way, the Pollo Con Queso is supposed to be smothered in cheese; that's why it's called CON QUESO.
Hot Stuff – Yea, this place is pretty good. Not only do they score a 10 on all the criteria but the service is "world class". I always find the place extremely busy but they find the way to meet my dining needs without question... refill on salsa, water etc... no problem. Once, they messed up on changing wait staff during our meal so waited 30 minutes, they apologized and took care of the meal... pretty classy.
Ooooo La La – While visiting in Phoenix, my sisiter took me to her favorite restaurant. The place was packed, the parking lot was over flowing, and the food and service was outstanding!! ( Which explains the crowds) The menu is super for those who would like to try Mexican food, not over spicy and everything was fresh. I had the Almond Chicken salad.
