Last night, my boyfriend and I went to dinner at Ajo Al's Mexican Cafe. The reason was because we had it on Sunday when his brother came in from TX for a visit and the food and service were great. Howver, last night was llike the complete opposite. The waiter kept forgetting things, he never once came to refil our glasses, he never asked how we liked our food or if we wanted anything else. To top it off, the Carne Asada Burro was tasteless. I mean tortilla, cheese and chunks of unseasoned meat. It was awful. The arroz con pol... read more

Great mexican food and great service – This was our 1st trip to Phoenix and just happened to find this restauant. The food was GREAT! There were four in our party and we were all tasting each others dishes! The veggie salads were so flavorful and different! We were seated as soon as we walked in the door by very friendly staff and the wait staff was always checking to see what we needed. My next trip back to Phoenix will include dining here again! If you are looking for some good, spicey, veggie mexican food, this is the pla... read more

okay, but not all that – For a city like Phoenix, I expected the Mexican food to be better. Ajo Al's was average for my taste. It just wasn't spicy enough. Best Mexican food in the city? I don't think so. Perhaps Phoenicians are more geared toward bland Mexican food. Be warned: the dessert chimi had way too much coconut in it. The red salsa was good if runny.

Great Mexican Food!! – I eat out OFTEN in the Valley. This is one of the tastiest places I've eaten Mexican food at. It was recommended by a friend. Not sure what some reviewers are talking about. The place is always busy *and not just in the winter time with snow birds* so I guess most Phoenicians like nasty mex food? NO!! The menu is VERY extensive and the food comes in pretty large portions. I got the chicken Mexican pizza, and I dont really eat Mexican pizza's but this one was unique with a white sauce and it was kind of... read more

Ajo Lotta Nuthin' – Decent portions of uninteresting, bland, overpriced Mexican fare. Frequented by snowbirds and timid office groups seeking a joint that wont offend middle of the road tastes but winds up disappointing all but the least discerning, cheese-loving palates. Plan to spend part of your weekday lunch hr finding a parking spot down the street, while your companion waits in a line inexplicably extending out the front door. Service ranges from OK on weekdays to abysmal on weekends, when it's less crowded. Better Mex... read more

Exceptionally disappointing – In a nutshell this place is overpriced and average at best. I ordered a shrimp fajita plate. They brought me four full sized flour tortillas and a sizzling plate of green peppers and onions. Mixed in with the vegetarian platter that I guess I must have ordered, they mixed in 8 medium size shrimp. I had to cut the shrimp in half to fill my tortillas. My wife ordered the pimento cheese dip, which tasted strikingly like a velveeta base with some additional peppers tossed in so they could charge you... read more

fantastic – Great place to catch some mexican food. My favorite is the Pollo con Queso, it's smothered in cheese and enough for leftover lunch the next day. The salsa is spicy and the service is usually quick. They have an outdoor misted patio that's fun too. I've never had a problem with smelling smoke from the bar while eating my dinner in the restraunt.

This Place Is Awesome! – I don't know what the other reviewer is talking about. Ajo Al's is one of the best mexican restaurant' in Phoenix, esp the 16th an Camelback locations. Outrageous margaritas, ICE-COLD mexican beers, and terrific salsas. And by the way, the Pollo Con Queso is supposed to be smothered in cheese; that's why it's called CON QUESO.
