Absolutely Top Notch – I have been taking my cocker spaniel Pigeon to A Cut Above Grooming Salon for several years on a regular basis and it has always been an exceptionally pleasant experience. Diana at the front desk is exceedingly pleasant and professional. They call me if Pigeon is finished early. And, best of all, Pigeon looks fantastic when I pick her up. I moved about a year ago and tried another groomer . . . with an unfortunately poor outcome. That experience taught me just how wonderful A Cut Above is, and now I ma... read more
A Cut Above all the Rest – It is my great pleasure to write of my, nearly 15 year, professional relationship with the Cut Above Grooming Salon on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The individual care and personal attention given to my Bichon Frise, Angelo, and Maltese, Valentina, have been extraordinary, not to mention the sheer beauty of their coats, faces, paws, and tails with their unmistakable “Cut Above” style after grooming. Ming Liddle and her staff, have cultivated a true institution on the West Side, where neighbors... read more
A Cut Above lives up to its name – I have been going to A Cut Above on the Upper West Side for almost 15 years, with two Samoyeds, first Sascha and now Rascal - both rescues, both wonderful dogs. The staff has always been terrific with the dogs - Sascha lived to 13, Rascal is now almost 15.The staff is particularly good with this breed. There aren't many Sammies in NY, yet they know exactly how the breed should be groomed . I have never failed to get at least a dozen compliments while walking my Sammies back home after their... read more
Customer since 1993 – I moved into the UWS back in 1993 and started taking my then 3 year old Samoyed to A Cut Above. They do THE best job I've seen for Samoyeds... trim the hocks, nicely trimmed paws, and remove all undercoat (which is not an easy job at all - but they patiently work at it!!). In fact when I moved back to Queens in 1995 I've tried several other groomers and no one would do as good a job. They would not be thorough. I would always get my dog back w/ no undercoat removed and their skin couldn't breath. This p... read more
An Open Communique to Pet Owners – On April 6, 2010, Genoveve Down posted a negative review claiming an injury to her Bichon to which I offered (below) to reimburse her for vet expenses. Ms. Down’s lack of response to my offer, and the absence of any record of such an injury in either of our salons, confirm my belief that this was a non-existing customer making an untrue review. Equally untrue were three other recent reviews, all sent by a single person using three different names. As the owner of A Cut Above, and in behalf ... read more
Nice cut, mean man – Man I wish I'd taken a look at these reviews before I tried this place. I don't normally get my dog a gooming, I just give him a bath, so I have no basis of comparison. However, I can't believe how rude the guy was to me. It was really expensive so I was surprised that the groomer was so grumpy. I think they should be nicer. Maybe all the groomers are like that but if not this place should be more professional. I didn't know what kind of instructions to give, and the guy had absolutely no patience for me... read more
Business response:
I'm glad three of your family members liked the completed haircut, and that "D" has come back for several more haircuts. I reviewed the video recording of your family (mom, dad and two girls) checking your Wheaton puppy in for his first haircut. It's clear from the video that there was a serious and heated difference of opinion among your four family members as to how you wanted "D" styled. The video shows that it was because of the conflict among your family that my senior groomer pointed out that there wouldn't be enough t... read more
Not thrilled – Totally hilarious drama below and who are these people? But have to chime in....we're not going back. I have a bijon and she got a big ole cut on her back. My dog walker told me not to go there so I should have listened. Not sure why it should be such a big deal there are like three other places about a block away.
Business response:
We have no client with your name, never had such an injury to a Bichon, never had a call about such an injury to a Bichon and no veterinarian reported treating a Bichon for such an injury so I wonder if this review is true. A "big ole cut on her back" is a serious injury that would definitely have required vet care. Actually, my salon would have gotten the pet immediate treatment and would have paid for that treatment. Our business is dealing with living creatures that can move unexpectedly and unfortunately accidental injur... read more
Most Caring Groomers – After I got my first baby Pomeranian Rubix, I searched for a groomer salon who would take very good care of him. A Cut Above came highly recommended. I was very pleased with the service. Not only did Rubix come out very well groomed he was also treated with best care. We all know Poms can be stubborn but the staff at this place are great! They know how to handle him. Now his sister, Stormie is enjoying the same service as well. Perfect place for our babies!
Stay FAR FAR FAR away from this place!!! – I will never return and would not send my worst enemy to A CUT ABOVE. My dog is a rescue who spent 2 years in a tiny cage, never let out for exercise or human contact. Because of this she is terrified of being caged, A CUT ABOVE promised to groom my dogs without caging them and then the staff completely ignored this request. I returned to see them take my shaking, cowering, terrified dog out of a cage. When I complained they refused to contact the owner or manager and refused to giv... read more
Business response:
You do not dispute the fact that you were completely satisfied with the haircuts of your two dogs. Sadly though, through emails, letters, phone calls and this review, you unceasingly slander my good name and the reputation of my salons to force me to refund your grooming charges. Your fabrication to not pay is that your dogs were in a crate for minutes only after having been groomed and that you supposedly asked they not be crated. The fact of the matter is that when you checked in your dogs at my 83rd Street salon, you did ... read more
