This is cross posted from my review on Yelp, but we have now been back 4 times since I wrote the original review and A Cut Above (69th St Location) continues to deliver amazing haircuts and great treatment for my pup! Love it there! Pricey but worth it! I love this place and so does my Lhasa Apso Theo!! We moved to the city in January, and picking a good groomer in any new city is a scary thing. The staff at A Cut Above is so welcoming and kind. The reception area has glass walls so you can see straight into the grooming are... read more
Setting The Record Straight From A Client w/ Special Needs – This is a real story with a very real little shih tzu named Molly who was plagued with countless health problems since the day I took her home. In retrospect, and now having been a very experienced dog owner, I suspect that Molly probably came from a puppy mill. With all her health problems she never complained, and I vowed never to give up on her and to give her the best life possible while she was in my care here on Earth. When I first brought Molly in to ACA, Mi... read more
Do not bring your pet here no matter what! – I just read the reviews on this page and I'm not sure how I hadn't heard about this place before. I really wish someone had told me. The local vet offices should warn new dog owners not to bring their pets here. I love my dog so much and I feel like such a horrible person for having put her through torture. I'm not sure which groomer ended up taking care of my dog, but she came home with nicks and cuts and she's been under the dining room table shaking for days. Literally, I have ... read more
Business response:
I wonder if you have A Cut Above confused with another salon. I take every comment seriously. When we make the inevitable mistake, I do what's needed to remedy it. And when we're falsely accused on the Internet, I present our view. We're here twenty years because we're responsible. I've discussed your comments with my salon managers. None recalls any remotely similar conversation with a customer. We have no record of a client reporting the injuries your dog experienced, nor were we presented with any vet bills for such injur... read more
If you love your dog, read reviews carefully please – I posted this same review on yelp, but feel it is important to post this review. first, i'm wary of some of the highly rated comments for this business - make sure you feel confident they are not written by the business owners themselves. here's my story: I don't know what happened to my dog while he was there, but when he came home, he was super anxious and would pee whenever i came near him. he would hide whenever he thought i would pick him up. and whenever i said "no"... read more
Business response:
I'm repeatedly amazed at how people behave on the Internet, at how they feel it's OK to malign someone's business without any substantiation. With no facts, the writer concludes that her dog is acting unusual because our grooming salon must have done something terrible to her dog. And without voicing her concern to us, or asking us if we could explain the behavior, she writes a scathing, totally unfounded, accusation on the Internet. Had she called us, I would have invited her to review the video recording of her dog's groom... read more
Bush league--at best. Sloppy, inconsistent work and revolving-door employee changes. The end for me was seeing my tiny dog tethered to a grooming table and being tormented by the very large, free-running dog of one of the employees (it was "bring your dog to work day"). Yikes!
Business response:
In 20 years grooming on the Upper Westside, I've found customers tell you directly if they aren't satisfied. Customers not fully satisfied with our work are encouraged to tell us. We then do our best to respond with a re-cut or refund. It's not believable a customer would stay a customer if we delivered "sloppy, inconsistent work". Customers know from coming to us for years that we have a stable, work group, most with us more than five years (many more than ten), one reason our work is so consistent. We have no "bring your d... read more
The Most Stylish Canine Cuts In The CIty – My Broadway Joey, a 31/2 year old Yorkshire Terrier has been taken care of by Ming and her loving staff since he was a puppy. People stop me on the street all the time asking where JoeJoe got his amazingly stylish haircut! Ming knows every dog that comes to A Cut Above and they have just opened a new salon on 69th Street that looks like a spa. This is a very classy place with very competitive prices. A Cut Above should be your first choice!
Trustworthy and Reliable – I have used this grooming shop since 1993 starting at their 75th Street location. Over the years I have tried others closer to me but kept returning to this shop. I love the way they style and their hair cutting is beautiful! Since 2001 I have taken my dogs to Ming and her staff of very nice people exclusively. I feel totally comfortable there and they really care and are very knowledgeable about dogs. My 17 year old Bichon Frise passed away in 2009 unfortunately, he started there in '93. My 11 yea... read more
Terrible, terrible, heartbreaking – My poor baby left "A Cut Above" needing stitches today :( I had to bring my little pomeranian boy in to have his hair evened out after wearing a cone and a cast for 8 weeks. I called in advance to explain that he was healing from a broken leg, I specifically asked and waited for a date and time when their "most experienced" groomer would be available... Well I got there and my dog was trembling and holding his leg to his side. They said he was "compensating" from the break, as it turns out... read more
Business response:
As Ms. AdamsSpinetti says, "People make mistakes" and I acknowledged to her that mistakes were made with her Pomeranian. As an explanation (not excuse) the groomer involved was experienced, having been with us for ten years. Unfortunately, he inadvertently nicked the dog. It was the kind of an accident that has happened with all groomers. It was certainly not done on purpose or because of lack of experience. While we can't undo the bell, the salon assumed the vet bills, including follow-up visits and of course did not charge... read more
Great Dog Groomers – I cannot say enough good things about this place. I had my Westie, Duffy, groomed here for five years and I didn't have a single complaint about their service. My dog has passed away recently because of cancer so I'm writing this review to express my appreciation to A Cut Above and its staff for taking good care of her every time she came in to be groomed. Duffy didn't like being bathed, so I don't know what it was exactly, but Duffy acted like a kid in a candy store every single time I took her in for g... read more
