At first we are hesitant to eat because its seems like an ordinary restaurant but we are surprised that they serve the best steak! my experience matches with the saying "Dont judge the book by its cover"
My new favorite spot! – I heard and read a lot about the Alden and the *17 . Finally I made arrangements to take some friends for dinner for my BDay! I couldn't choose a better place! Amazing! – My wife and I finally decided to check out this restaurant after hearing from our friends how good it is. They were right! We had tickets to go to see "Rock of Ages" and wanted to get something to eat prior to the show. We chose 17 since they provide a shuttle service to the theater. Great food, So Romantic! – Had dinner with my husband and was just blown away by the food and service. Diana made us feel so welcome and taken care of! We both had the tasting menu and it was amazing! Both my husband and I are foodies so expections were high and they were definatly met!
best meal I had in Houston. Thanks to Patrick – The snapper dish was impeccable. Service was flawless. Thanks to Diana & her Team. Great extensive wine list. Patrick GM surely knows how to pair my dish.
Just okay – My spouse and I went for New Year's Eve and were disappointed. There was a prefixed menu with two choices for each course. My spouse and I ordered one of each so we could try everything. The food was just okay and our server was forgetful. A gratuity of 20% was added to our meal (for a party of 2 who received just okay service) so we ended up with a over $240 dollar meal.
Great service and atmosphere, food so-so – We visited during Restaurant Week, where you pay a fixed price of $35 for 3 courses. The food was just okay for the price. Out of the 6 entree choices provided for restaurant week, we ordered 5. Two were pretty good and the other 3 were less than great. Not much flavor. crystalpistol, I know no one responded to your criticism last year concerning *17. Since your last visit there have been several changes. The hotel is under new ownership and management. *17 has retained it's servers, which you seemed to enjoy, replaced the chef, and has a new experienced General Manger. A hostess ding dong for dessert? – i asked for a ceasar salad, which they served in the bar, and the server made it seem like it was such an ordeal. He had to ask the chef if he would make it, which he did, but i think he forgot the dressing. i asked for a malbec and the manager brings me 3 other types of wine to choose from, because they have a limited selection. he then choose one for me, which sucked. they serve some sort of paste with bread before the appetizer, it tasted like bean dip. only gives you one roll, which was... read more
Fall from Grace – It's sad when one of your favorite restaurants slips but fortunately there are others to take it's place. On my first vist back to 17 after the change in chefs I was dissapointed with the dinner. It was for restaurant week but really it should always be right... there shouldn't be an excuse. opinion2008, I agree it is sad when one of your favorite restaurants slip and falls form grace. Americans, however, love a comeback. In the past year The Alden was purchased by a small group of investors. The hotel is under new management and has made several changes. *17 has a new chef Sam Beier, the same servers, and a new General Manager. That would be me Patrick Dorrian.
