Zafra is a busy little place. It offers take-out food and does catering for small or large parties. For such a small place, Zafra has attracted remarkable attention. It was rated Excellent by the New York Times, which is equivalent to a three-star rating in neighboring Manhattan, and has obtained high marks from all New Jersey publications and the Zagat survey. In 2005, the late R.W. Apple wrote a two-page feature article about Zafra and its sister restaurant Cucharamama in the New York Times. It was the greatest compliment ... read more

i stop there for the first time the other day coming out of the hospital. I asked for 2 "empanadas " or "meat turnovers" when I got them i was surprise when she told me it was $3.25. I had never pay more than a dollar for empanadas but I figure they must be huge and delicious. I also order a passion fruit juice that up my balance to $8. I am not the type of person to complain but $5 for a small cup of juice that was water down with ice??? When I got to the car and saw the empanadas they were incredibly small and the meat tas... read more
Bad attitude, service not included, will bully you for tip! – This was an unprecedented nightmare of an evening. After waiting 45minutes, we had a table and ordered food and had drinks (it is BYO alcohol, and they mix it for you for a hefty charge). Everything turned sour after we politely asked about the $25 charge for the 3 glasses/drinks (remember we brought the alcohol, so you’re charged for the ice cubes, water, & the traces of lemon juice). We expected a $5 charge per glass, and this is why we inquired about the charge... read more
I miss Zafras! I still get hungry for the delicious food at Zafras after being away for six years! I have never tasted Cuban food so delicious. The ambiance is great, and the service is wonderful. If you are in the neighborhood, stop in and have a meal for me!
a hole in the wall – this place is so quaint and intimate. It's also located away from the bustling crowd of washington ave. The food is always good though. The dishes may be south american based, but they're not weird eats at all. Try the chicken sandwich, its sooo good. The juices are freshly made. Some of the juices are made with the zest in them, so if thats not your forte, dont bother ordering. The decor is colorful, ethnic and cheery. Downside is that the space is soo small. There are only about 6 tables which fits 2-3... read more
Great Food – The food is really good at this place, it's cozy and fun...I've been here a few times and have never been disappointed.
Fantastic Cuban food, fun atmosphere You won't even notice that Zafra is a tiny place once you sit down and start enjoying the amosphere and the delicious food. They don't take reservations, but if you call ahead they can put you on the list. It's a bring your own bottle, so pick out your favorite and try something new off the menu. I recently went there with family and we ordered different dishes so we could all share. Perfect plan since it's so hard to only pick one thing for dinner. Go ahead....order apps and dessert too!
Amazing all around – My bf and I went tonight and loved it! The service was awesome, the restaurant small and cozy. We felt like we were in someone's home. It is BYOB and they made Sangria for us which was really good. We asked the waiter to suggest dishes and he was spot on. The quesidilla much better and different than what one normally finds. The chicken was tender. The shrimp with mola sauce and kale was tasty. The tostonis crispy and not oily with a garlic sauce. The food was well portioned and there was a huge selectio... read more
Consistently good I haven't had the opportunity to explore the entire menu yet, however, the appetizers and soups are consistently good. The staff are really nice and attentive so you'll never have an empty glass.
Good Food, Romantic Atmosphere Zafra's is a really cozy restaurant with nice Cuban/Spanish decor and good food. I love their toasted flatbread that they give you a the beginning of the meal. The entrees are exotic but delicious. You can also bring your own wine to have sangria made. Highly recommended!
