It's hard to argue with Zachary's Chicago Pizza's 150 "Best Pizza" awards. Perhaps it's the unique stuffed pizza form factor, or the mildly spicy pizza sauce that makes this pizza place so popular? Whatever the reason, Zachary's has been a favorite amongst it's clientele since the 1980's and will remain that way, as it continues to please its fans, now even offering gluten-free pizza, and a take and bake option for those wanting to serve fresh and piping hot pizza in their homes. However, If you do come inside, you'll get to... read more

A new review on an old favorite – I've been getting Zachary's pizza's to go for years. The deep dish isn't something you can really call pizza -- it's a thick, hefty two and a half inch thick pie. One slice will slow you down for the evening. Yes, sometimes the fillings can be a bit hard to detect, because there's just so much dough and cheese and tomatoes and... well, even so, it's very, very good. But it's not a California pizza, and it's not exactly a Chicago deep dish. We order two with regularity: the whole wheat crust ... read more
Take away a deep dish pizza for home dining – We get a Zachary's deep dish cheese pizza every Tuesday night and are never disappointed. The pizza is always great and so is the service. All of the employees are friendly and very service oriented. Thanks!
Had heard so many good things... – Went last night to Zachary's for the first time after hearing that it was the best in the bay area. Was very excited to walk in and be seated right away (a Monday night). Ordered a 4 topping deep crust pizza from the blunt waitress... While waiting I could not talk to my partner over the loudness in the place. When I moved my chair closer I was rudely asked to move back as i was blocking the way(but all the extra "pizza stools" were allowed to be there!) Then the pizza. While it was good, I... read more
Thin/Stuffed – I went to Zachary's for a deep dish but naive Californians, my bf and I ordered a thin crust vs. the stuffed crust. We thought the stuff crust was like Pizza's hut, where they load up the crust with cheese inside. We were disappointed we didn't get to try the deep dish but the thin crust was the BEST we've ever had. Toppings were tasty and the crust was crispy and delicious. We're going back for the deep crust next time but didn't regret trying out the thin crust.
A Chicago Pizza Lover Deeply Disappointed.... – Having read all the rave reviews I was disappointed in my experience; having ordered a 5 ingredient deep dish only to have to ask the waitress if the order was taken incorrectly -as my wife and I couldn't find the mushrooms nor pepperoni - could you believe the waitress, with her knife and fork, had to search along with us and say "there they are" - that makes for a very sad experience - while your pizza get smothered with loads of tomatoe chunks we found found a complete lack ... read more
Closest's you'll get to NY or Chicago! – I'm from New York so ofcourse I'm not going to think any pizza from California is good (and trust me I've gone to plenty of pizza joints in the Bay Area). I tried Zackery's pizzeria in Rockridge about 5 years ago. I was pleasantly surprised by the taste. It was really good! The only thing I was surprised was the price. A "pie" of pizza was a lot more expensive than what I would pay for in New York City! But if you are in the area and want a good pizza - you HAVE to go to Zachary's (re... read more
Even Windy City natives will revel in the deep-dish at this East Bay pizza mecca. – The Scene In this cozy haven, the din of diners mingles with the clamor of a frantic kitchen. Plaques, posters and other Zachary's paraphernalia plaster the walls in a declaration of the unrivaled splendor of its pizza. Piping-hot pies are served in the cramped dining area on wooden stools beside each table. The Food Ooey-gooey, crispy and chewy, the stuffed pizzas preserve the flavor of ingredients by sealing them between two layers of dough... read more
A taste of Chicago in Berkeley... – For a major city, the Bay Area plays host to far too many horrible pizzerias. Zachary's is truly an exception. It's deep-dish pies hold their own against Gino's East and the rest of Chicago's finest. Now if only someone could open a place that mirrored New York's finest pies...
best pizza in CA – This is way more than pizza. For highest entertainment value, hang out near the kitchen and watch. The ambience is not worth talking about, aside from the mostly wry, intelligent staff that make being there fun. The wait is always long, and it's almost always loud, so I tend to get my pizzas to go. Which I do probably weekly. It's cash only, and there's no delivery; they don't provide those conveniences because they don't have to. The pizza is just that good.
Zachary's Chicago Pizza has a 4.6 star rating with 2,040 reviews.
