Discrimination against Black hair textures and styles on your employees is the farthest thing from “natural.” And shame on you for telling the young employee that the situation reflects poorly on them - it doesn’t. It reflects poorly on this business, doubly so because you tried to lay blame elsewhere. Yuck.
