The Woodlawn Tap, known for its late owner, Jimmy, is a Hyde Park institution. Students from the venerable University of Chicago are known to flock here, before, after, and sometimes even during classes. Don't leave without trying one of Jimmy's famous cheeseburgers, and make sure to eavesdrop on some of the interesting (and decidedly out-of-place) conversations. Saul Bellow and Dylan Thomas are rumored to have drunk here. Jimmy's features live jazz on Sunday nights.

A regular Chicago joint that just happens to have Nobel laureate scientists and literary lions sitting next to sanitation workers to watch a ball game...with true live Chicago blues and jazz in the back room.
Been getting after the blues for sometime here, Bills a good dude.
been going there since 1971. great memories bill was great on tv this am
First went there over 30 years ago and still insist on visiting every time I'm in Chicago. Although i enjoyed and miss Jimmy, the guys that worked for him and took over are more than happy to call me a meathead as well. I recommend the thumbprint burger.
I played in the backroom.
It's Jimmy's. Nuff Said!
