What a Find! – While walking around the meatpacking District last Thursday, I stumbled upon a spectacular little oasis...Michael Angelo's Wonderland Beauty palor. Totally Cool Experience Every Time – Great music, great vibe, cool staff, and I get the BEST highlights in the world from Gabriel. And since this post is anonymous, I am free to admit that I truly enjoy the people-watching/star-gazing here! :-)
An ultra-glam beauty parlor from a seasoned consultant to the modeling set. – In Short Every inch of the fantasyland decor at this whimsical salon was conceived by owner Michael Angelo, from the backstage-inspired styling and cutting stations of elaborately embellished mirrors and Lucite chairs to the vibrant, eccentric wallpaper (ladies' stocking-sheathed legs; the sky and clouds above the Jersey Turnpike). Even the bathroom is fully decked out, striped yellow and hot pink like a Big Top tent.
The name says it all – When you walk into Wonderland you are truly stepping through a rabbit hole From the wall of flowers amid the blinking neon sign, to the Barbie-doll-filled bubbles that float above your head, to Madonna blasting through the sound system, you have stepped out of Manhatton and into a magical place. Finally, good hair! – I've been searching for that elusive "good haircut" for years. And finally, I've found the place where I can get it--Wonderland. It's a high-end salon, beautifully thought-out and decorated--but with no snotty attitude to get in the way of your experience. Michael is a Hair Genius. He really is. And the staff is friendly and thoughtful, as well. If you're looking to get on that Best Tressed list, this is the place to start.
Michael Angelo"s Wonderland Beauty Parlor – Fabulously chic, yet not snooty staff and atmosphere! If you arrive on the right day (check signs) at 4 pm you can park right in front of the salon....just a short walk from the 14th St PATH and Subways and you can have lunch across the street at Spicemarket or around the corner at Pastis! Michael is the best colorist around (does lots of Model work) and the staff is all extremely talented and again, NOT snooty...you'll be comfortable here!!!
Something Different – Been to a salon lately that has the most wonderful treats on the reception desk for you to try, from pink marshmallows to little licorice animal shapes ? Or a place where there's movies being projected on the back wall ? Or the owner makes you believe you're beautiful even if you're less than perfect ? Wonderland is just that - a wonder! A haircut by Michael is special, and everyone else at this gem is helpful and caring. I haven't been disappointed yet.
It Doesnt Get Much Better Than This! – Besides the best hair cut and highlights, this place is just FUN! The decor is totally off the wall in a classic beauty way. They play the best music here and here's something new for NYC salons, there is absolutely ZERO pretension - everyone from the nice person who greets you to the nice person who gives you a frothy cappucino, they couldn't be cooler.
